It also suggests that because of TDK's success, "The Dark Knight" had to be in the title again.

So when the inevitable reboot happens, "The Dark Knight Begins" will likely be a title candidate. ;)
At least they didn't go with something like "The Dark Knight 2: The Darker Knight".

Anyways, Two Face and the Joker are the twin peak villains of Batman. It's pretty much downhill from here unless Nolan manages to make a lesser known villain more popular by casting an actor who does well to portray him/her. He's probably going to have to make one of the unrealistic villians (i.e. Mr. Freeze, poison Ivy) more believable.

I'm glad the director didn't go with the 3d craze.

Isn't the villain going to be killer croc?

Nah, they haven't said who the villain will be. Apparently it was supposed to be the riddler, but that didn't happen. So now it's all question marks.

Bane and Croc are both in the same category as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy. I honestly wouldn't mind too much though if the Dark Knight franchise became more sci-fictitious.

How about Harley Quinn or The Ventriloquist? or maybe they'll take on more of the graphic novels from Long Halloween or Dark Victory where Batman faces off against the mob some more?

Ruling out the Riddler is a big one. Clayface is also an option but would turn it towards the more Sci-Fi atmosphere of Batman. Or if they are going the Catwoman way - Max Schreck?

There are hundreds of possibilities. Nolan has alot to live up to with Ledger's final and absolutely amazing performance as The Joker.

Well, other than perhaps Catwoman, a lesser known villain is going to have to be what they go with since it's now apparent the Riddler won't be used, and we already knew Nolan has no interest in incorporating Penguin or Mr. Freeze into the third film. But there are indeed options before going into that more fantastical realm of Batman villains.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think Black Mask and Hush are perfect for Nolan's Batman franchise.

The Ventriloquist actually could work. He's not sci-fi, he just has a multiple personality disorder that creates Scarface.

If I were doing it (being the brilliant genius that I am) I would make it a group of villains. There's no law that says it has to be one or two villains. I would also pick actors that would make the characters their own (like Ledger did). I'd go with Harley Quinn, The Ventriloquist, Killer Croc and The Mad Hatter. Think of the interactions that group could have.

But Nolan probably won't do something that cool, so I probably won't go see it anyway.

I was just thinking. What about having Deadshot as the villain or one of the villains?

Since the movie is continuing from The Dark Knight and the city has turned against Batman, Deadshot could be hired by someone (crime bosses, police, mayor etc....) to take Batman out. Of course Deadshot would have his own agenda.

WEAK title. We've already had "begins", "rises" just sounds too similar. Didn't he rise already? I think Gotham would have been an awesome title.
