If Warner Bros/DC Comics really wants to be better and go toe to toe with Marvel Studios/The Walt Disney Corporation, they need to have people behind the camera that truly get what the characters are about, that and they need to take more chances with their stable of characters. Last years DC/Warners offering of Jonah Hex could have been a great gritty western but instead they took the Wild Wild West approach and made the movie pretty laughable and forgetable. There is a multitude of great characters that would be great to see on screen but are sadly being pushed aside by Batman and Superman over and over again.

DC will forever be inferior to Marvel.

Look at their main characters...

DC:
An Adonis from outer space
A billionaire playboy
An Amazonian princess

Marvel:
A dorky high school kid
A violence prone Canadian
An alcoholic weapons designer

Fact is, Marvel characters are simply more interesting.

It's not that having her walk again is that bad. It doesn't bother me, although it does have some "unfortunate implications" getting rid of somebody that was handicapped. I always like Babs also.

What upsets me is the fact they are pretty much throwing away 23 years of character development as her being Oracle which most people that read the comics liked better anyhow, and where she was much more influential and have a bigger impact than what she did when she was Batgirl.

Of course it has never helped that all non comic media involving Batgirl was portrayed with Barbra in the role instead of any of the other people,...when she wasn't Batgirl for over about two decades by that point.

I also liked both Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown as Batgirl, but they have always seemed to be kicked to the curb.

I figure this whole mess with the complete DC reboot will go over like a ton of bricks after the new car smell wears off of it, if not well before then. Just when you thought the two big comic producers couldn't make any decisions dumber than the ones they already have. It's like the people at DC saw all the colossally dumb decisions Qusada was doing at Marvel and are trying to beat Marvel for the award of the most idiotic things they can possibly do to their medium.

i dunno, i always consider batgirl and robin, and all that sidekick stuff just lame.

it deserves to be in some light-hearted comics but nothing serious. if they make a film, or rather WHEN they make it, they better not try to be serious about it. that will make it stupid.

i guess i like my stuff on the darker side. but im also a batman purist. i like him ok, but i havent liked any other movies since the 2nd one.

To their credit, one of the few they deserve, in the comics the sidekicks and the Batman family characters that have come about aren't nearly as bad, ridiculous, or as campy as they are in other media or in the comics of a very long time ago.

Of course that probably doesn't always translate well to other media perhaps. Still it would be unfair to judge them based on the old Batman television shows that had Adam West playing him or the really crappy Batman movies between the Burton ones and the new ones that just came out. Those ones between those were pretty much just made to sell toys and milk the franchise for all it was worth instead of making a good movie.

my biggest beef with sidekicks is what always fucking happens: they get caught.

you know the movies not over til robin, batgirl, whoever, gets caught.

sidekicks are trouble. good for nothing except for making "witty" comments. you know the type!

What's odd to me is that DC does typically really good animated movies. But other than a few entertaining Batman's they do live action fairly poorly.

Marvel is the complete opposite. Though I still hate how they refuse to stick to anything canon (DC or Marvel).
