Seriously though, I have to say visually Avatar is akin to watching Roger Dean's artwork come to life.
However the storytelling felt like the rehash of other films. Obviously "Dancing With Wolves" is at the top of the list. However "The Last Samurai" also comes to mind, as does "Gorillas In The Mist". James Cameron's message is rather bleak - with mankind's exploration will inevitably come exploitation. But the message was buried under an ordinary plot.
If the stories about Cameron planning a trilogy are correct, then Avatar is a decent start, but then again, so was "The Matrix".....:2 cents:

You have to watch it at an IMAX 3D. I got some wood from how awesome it looked. If You Miss the chance to watch this bad boy in the theater then you just screwed yourself.

Also who cares if the story was “Dances with wolves” clue shay, this movie was all about immersion into the world that they created; immersed I was.

i agreed with the guy in the moive who said it was just a tree felt it was bullshit trying too make us feel sorry for a bunch of blue people that are not real anyway. on top of that i saw this moive in 3D!! what sucks is it makes some objects on screen thin as cardboard.

I saw it, I believe I've made my true feelings towards this "movie" abundantly clear elsewhere on the board.

So I think, as of now I'll just say I didn't like it and leave it at that.......
