As the Oil Spill Continues, BP Turns to... Kevin Costner???

Maybe the BP execs are under the impression that "Waterworld" was a documentary film???

It was treated as an oddball twist in the otherwise wrenching saga of the BP oil spill when Kevin Costner stepped forward to promote a device he said could work wonders in containing the spill's damage. But as Henry Fountain explains in the New York Times, the gadget in question — an oil-separating centrifuge — marks a major breakthrough in spill cleanup technology. And BP, after trial runs with the device, is ordering 32 more of the Costner-endorsed centrifuges to aid the Gulf cleanup.

The device can purportedly take in thousands of gallons of oil-tainted water and remove up to 99% of the oil from it. On Thursday, BP posted to its YouTube page a video of the news conference featuring Costner and BP Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles announcing the news.

So what? I called Kevin Costner when my garbage disposal wouldn't work.:dunno:

Who else were they really going to call? Some boring scientist who invented the thing? People who specialise in science aren't to be trusted, you know that - at least that's what Hollywood has made you believe over the past 60 years with all of their anti-science propaganda. So in light of this, of course they aren't going to promote their plan with some evil bastard scientist that just wants to inflict as much pain and death on as many of us as he can. No, I'm sorry but as this shows you have no eye for public relations. Costner is the obvious choice, he's well known (he Danced with Wolves for God's sake!), semi-respected and he makes those of us who suppress our homosexuality by posting on a forum dedicated to straight porn try in vain to hide the obvious erection between our legs whenever we come into contact with an image of him.

You see what you and more importantly BP's PR team have done? No longer is this device the story. If it works, fantastic. If it doesn't, too bad. But Kevin Costner at this moment in time is the story, not BP, not the environment or the oil, but good old sexy Costner.

What bugs me is that when the guy held up these two little flasks, one with the dirty water and the one with the cleaned one - one was nearly full and one was almost empty.

Where did the other water and oil go?

Eh, if it's as effective as reported, go for it. BP sure as hell can't fix it.

In his congressional testimony, Costner recounted his struggle to effectively market the centrifuge. He explained that although the machines are quite effective, they can still leave trace amounts of oil in the treated water that exceeds current environmental regulations.
oh so it only sorta works...but at this point it's better then nothing...i was watching the news and an 'expert' was saying that the current estimate is that a trillion creatures have died since the spill began...don't ask me how they got that statistic but that was what the man said
