Apple won't repair Macs if owners are smokers

I honestly don't get the huge deal? If there is a significant amount of smoke buildup on the innards of your computer, why should it be covered? I'm not saying if you're a casual smoker and have one or two outside your house that it shouldn't be covered, but would you be mad they didn't cover it because you spilled a beer on it? It's the same basic premise. Don't gag your computer with your cigarettes and they'll be just fine.

i don't believe the machine was actually smoking when it arrived there for repairs. it just smelled of smoke. spilling a beer is different though as that would cause a short circuit, as most liquids do.

PCs are tweeker computers, particularly the ones built from scratch :p :D j/k
Macs are for people who like to plug in, get some work done, not have to worry about what goes on inside, don't want to have to deal w/ viruses, keep their units on for 4 years (24 / 7 / 365 1/4) w/out ever shutting down and people that only like to replace every 4 years.

Do I hate PCs ? hell no. :dunno:

Tar can seriously hinder the ops of the cooling fans making the wheels heavier and more resistant to freely rotate and circulate air. Look, Tar is gummy - sticky stuff and it acts as an adhesive in that it attracts lint & dust material.

I don't even think that you can split a new Mac case, that is, service internal parts like you could in the earlier g5s. I used to clean all kinds of lint material out of my g5 fans about every 6 months and I don't smoke !

i haven't seen a blue screen since... 2001 or so.
What people forget is that Windows is not the only game in town if you own a PC. There are lots of OS to choose from. With Apple you are stuck with their OS. You can use Bootcamp but you are still locked in to using Apple's bootloader. I haven't had a blue screen in quite some time either. I have found XP to be pretty stable.

I want a operating system that as stable to use as a Mac, but that's set up like windows with it's ease of use. Sure once people get used to Macs it's probably better, but jumping over to one sucks. As much as it's put together better than windows, Macs just have too many hassles when I use them, and there is just too many deal breakers for very simple things with user friendliness that piss me off about them, even if windows has more software glitches, and security leaks. In some instances they either made Macs too cute or just made it different for the sake of being different. Plus, if I want a new piece of software or a new game I don't want to have to wonder if it's going to work or even exist for Macs. Not that Microsoft deserves any praise, but Macs do have some faults.

i know a little something about electronics, and cigarette smoke is hell on them
i can see why they wouldn't want to repair something that someone is destroying (even if they don't know)

Actually smoke buildup is quite harmful to electronics over an extended period of time. It gunks up the circuits.

You LIE!!!

Science proves it:
