Aphex Twin is to techno/ambient what Pink Floyd playing in a blender are to rock-n-roll. It's sometimes melodic, sometimes dissonant chaos electronica. I don't recommend going out there buying one of his CDs without having heard his stuff first. It's definitely a niche sound - very influential, pioneering, and avant garde. Most people would hate it. I forget the term en vogue for that sort of techno, but I'd call it "cerebral mindfuck techno." LOL

Thank you for the details Nightfly. I'll take your word for it. I used to be into a similar type of music when I went out a lot. Sadly though I've been to busy with life to do most of that stuff anymore.
Aphex Twin made abstract music and beats when there were no good software at all. Today there are so many good beats of many musicans, but Aphex was the first that really made good abstrakt tunes and beats. 1994 Richard made music like you can do it with good software today! Beats like you can make with the Software "Reaktor" Aphex made in the early 90´s! Every good musican loves him. Madonna loves him, she wanted a track from him, but Richard didn´t wanted! Wow. You can read this story everywhere in the internet. It was also on television. Madonna was very pissed and sad about this. Björk loves Aphex. Note: The Song "Discotheque" from U2 was made by Aphex Twin. Richard said this in a interview. "Barrel of a Gun" from Depeche Mode and "Setting Sun" also Aphex Twin created, not Chemical Brothers or Depeche Mode. Limp Bizkit wanted remixes but Aphex didn´t gave a shit!

Correction - he REMIXED those tracks for maxi-singles/club releases. He didn't record or compose/write them. Get your facts straight.

It's not like he's Dr. Moog (RIP) or anything, inventing instruments and hardware, etc.

Aphex Twin - MADE - this tracks. Sometimes he remixes and sometimes he makes tracks for other musicans. They love him so much that they ask him to make a track. Why shoul i lie? I wrote this in an interview. But, i could be that Marc Weidenbaum (interviewer) has written a lie, like Guns N Roses would say - Lies, Lies, Lies - It´s so easy! Shit Press and interview guys. They tell more than the musicans themself!

But i wanted to say, that i don´t believe everything some interviewers writte about him. He is very good. You can trust him very much, who knows what he´s made we don´t know about? There are also interviews were you can read that Autechre are not only 2 - there are 3! Aphex should be the 3. member of Autechre.
I think there are many things we don´t know, Aphes is to creative. He has more than 10 different names (Polygon Window, PCP, Analord, etc.).
