The first band I was in wasn't really a band, just four dudes jamming around and starting to cover Metal/Rock/Punk songs, but when the other three guys wanted to get more serious about this whole thing the whole Metal aspect was gone as they didn't listen any longer to Metal. Well, then we named the band HELL-O SAM and the music basically was a melodic attempt of blending Hardcore, Punk and Screamo, then I couldn't be bothered any longer and left. A couple weeks (or months) later our annual school festival came around and HELL-O SAM had their first gig there, so I asked them if I could open as their support act. They said yes and I decided to form a new band called KOMMERZSCHEISSE (= commerce shit), but I was the only one who could actually play an instrument (guitar). So when the time came, we were already pissed out of our minds and we took the stage and I started with the "Anarchy In The UK" riff and from there on out all hell broke loose. The rest of our gig we covered several pop hits such as "Without You". I was playing the guitar the whole time, but all the other members changed instruments after each song. Pretty much the whole school was there and the crowd went crazy. The best part of this afternoon was that when HELL-O SAM came on, only some hipsters and punks were left standing in front of the stage, the rest couldn't be bothered and walked away, which I have to admit was pretty sweet to see. After that KOMMERZSCHEISSE disbanded for good as its purpose had served.
However, I also have a more serious attempt at music under my belt. I actually asked two members of HELL-O SAM (drums, bass) to help me out in recording the demo for my one-man-project NORRSKEN which was entitled "I mina drömmar" and had three songs on it. Since I didn't speak any Swedish back then a relative who was living there translated the lyrics of the title track for me, the other two songs were in German and English respectively. I was really proud of the outcome as I thought my riffs were really bad-ass and rather catchy, even though the production quality was pure shit. I thought the cover was really cool too as I was pencil drawing mountain silhouettes and a shining moon. I never had any talent whatsoever when it comes to drawing, but that cover did turn out really well, as in dark and mysterious.
Unfortunately I lost my last remaining copy of this tape a decade ago which pisses me really off since it obviously costs me my Metal-Archives entry... hahaha. Well, I'm serious about being pissed off, because I would really love to listen to that music again. Maybe it's better this way, maybe it isn't any good at all and all it would bestow on me is utter disappointment in myself. At least now I've got romantic memories about it and the imagined quality it ensues.
One thing I did get out of all of this were five demo tapes as I did a little tape trading back then, so in return I got: ABIGOR "
Moonrise", BEHEMOTH "
The Return Of The Northern Moon", NAGLFAR "
Stellae Trajectio", PERISHED "
Through The Black Mist" and SETHERIAL "
A Hail to the faceless angels". Apart from some rare 7"s these five demo tapes are my most cherished Metal possessions.
A year earlier I also recorded a rather weird tape which would now be labeled as Acoustig Grindcore Neofolk as I played a classical guitar and screamed my ass off to some gory lyrics I wrote. I actually can't remember what this project was called, but either something that had the word INTESTINES in it or simply PROGERIA. The cassette was entitled "Jeffrey Dahmer" and its title track was rather monotonous, a little bit like the "Doug and Carrie Song" heard on "King of Queens".
And those were my musical endeavours...
