Anyone else tired of this awful heat wave?

Here in the Midwest, we've had temps in the 100s and upper 90s for two weeks now, and it's just awful. We've had a heat advisory warning in effect 24 hours for the past four days. My apartment only has a window unit in the bedroom, so the living room averages about 85 degrees for most of the day. Around 8am it starts to feel nice, only to warm up again by early afternoon. We've decided to close the bedroom door at night, in order for it to be cool enough to *****.

Our news says it's supposed to cool down slightly by the end of the week, into the low 90s, but that's not much better. :( At least I didn't have to move into a dorm this week, like a lot of other people, but if the paperwork goes okay, I'll be moving into my new apartment next Friday & Saturday. So hopefully it cools down some by then, otherwise moving all that furniture will be miserable.

What makes me angry is that they don't have any cooling centers open at night. You have to pay to sit in a restaurant if you want to be somewhat cool at night. I'm sitting here typing at 2:30 in the morning and it's still 83 degrees! People who have inadequate or no air-conditioning are still suffering, even after the sun goes down. You'd think the community would care more about it's elderly and low-income citizens - at least enough to have one cooling center open at night.
