Anyone else ever wonder why?

How many times have you seen a news report of a building being on fire and inevitably there will be people jumping to their deaths. I've always wondered why?

We saw it in the WTC incident, and I know I've seen news videos many times throughout my life of people leaping from a burning building only to fall to certain death, which to me seems much worse than dying of smoke inhalation. I could be wrong, but it still haunts me as to why someone would jump. Your thoughts?

Simple. Most people would rather take the remote chance that they could survive a fall than the certainty of burning alive.

A valid answer for sure. However, I heard or read where most people don't burn to death. Rather, they die from smoke inhalation, which is fast and surely not as bad as splattering yourself all over a sidewalk.

Most people facing certain death will take the option that allows them to choose their demise. It's basic human nature. They would rather take a slim chance of survival by jumping. And they are also horrified at the thought of their remains being burned beyond recognition whether they pass out first or not.

What Countach said. I'd rather die from the jump I chose over sitting and waiting for the smoke to fill my lungs. Unless I had a gameboy.

Yeah I'd also take the change of surviving a jump instead of being burned alive. But first I'd try to actually climp down that building, if I fail, I will fall down anway
