As M12 stated, ***** meat is neither forbidden nor such a weird food in Germany.

I have eaten ***** steak, and other dishes from ***** meat, and it tastes great.

I never did understand the reticence to using horses for food.

I was told it was common in America back in WWI (or was it WWII?) that there was a shortage in livestock and they sold ***** meat to compensate. :dunno:

As Maley already said, it's a very common meat product in Europe.
I don't eat it though, because I believe horses are elegant and beautiful creatures. But most people do eat ***** meat and really like it. I principally never did, so I can't judge about the taste.
The difference in between cows and horses are obvious, cows are reproduced to slaughter (at least in Europe they are), and ***** meat is only used when the ***** it old, and when they can't use it anymore for hard labour, or to ride it.

I don't think I could do it. I'm too conditioned to think of horses as "majestical creatures for riding" not "livestock for chomping on". I wouldn't blink twice at someone else eating it because cultures ARE so different, so eat and let eat. But I'm just not conditioned to put a ***** on my plate. I took horseback riding lessons when i was younger.
