Jean Luc Ponty. Great fusion jazz musician, and he played on a couple of Frank Zappa albums.
 
Sadly, there are many 'should've been' classics from the jazz world that have not been properly recognized, essentially languishing in perpetuity. :confused:

"Pearls" (1995) by legendary sax player, David Sanborn is a brilliant and moving piece featuring some truly scale-defying rifts!
More than any other jazz composition I've ever heard, this one seemingly tells a story of heartache and pain.

The soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop (including the current netflix remake) is like 99% Jazz & blues.
