Any classic gamers here?

Does anybody else here still like to play old console games (nes, snes, genesis, the old atari systems,colecovision...)

The only system I currently own right now is a PS1. I plan on buying a PS2 and then start collecting some of the old systems.

Don't get me wrong, the next gen systems are going to be awesome and I plan on getting at least one of them, but I will always be classic gamer.

I went and bought a nes again about a year ago. I always regretted getting rid of mine. I plan to buy a sega genisis and super nes as well in the near future. Along with PS3

I still have my massive old school Game Boy, and at least 75 games. I keep it in my toolbox. I have to commend Nintendo on that thing, it's 13 years old and beat to hell, but still works.

I still have all my old consoles. I only play them occasionally though (my backlog of current stuff is too big). I usually play Mega Man 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Fantasy Zone(Sega Master System) the most when I hook the old stuff up.

Was at a mate's tonight and we broke out his old Super Nintendo. Super Soccer was a great game as was the wrestling one, think it was Royal Rumble or Survivor Series.

I love Super Mario ( more the princess)

so I play

- Nes
- Snes (emulator)
- Sega Mega Drive (emulator)

and so other
by the way I've onl the Nes console

i do my share of emulation
NES, SNES, Genesis
also got (not really classic - but getting rare) the Dreamcast, which is AWESOME!
I play way to many games to list though

how do I get the software for the emulation? How much space does it take up on your harddrive...I've heard about it before but don't remember to much of what the guy was talking about. A link would be helpful as well!

Classic gaming rockz! Duckhunt is by far my favorite classic game, next to SMB1 and 3

I have NES, SNES, GameBoy, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Virtual Boy, Dreamcast, XBOX.. and I pimped one of my NES :dunno: ....
Now I don't really collect them anymore so it just sits their in a box..

I have the old Nintendo 64 with Super Mario plus PS1 with Pacman, Mrs. Pacman ,and Centipede.

I myself own a Neo-Geo AES console, as well as a Neo-Geo CD Top Loader.
I'ma big fan of SNK's fighting games, ranging from The King of Fighters to Art of Fighting.

I'm also a fierce collector of fighting games in general. (Both classic and modern)
Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, DOA, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, Soul Calibur, Guilty Gear... to the DOS classic Budokan !
You name the series, chances are I own either the entire series accross different consoles, or 1 or 2 entries.

if you want a link to emulation, www.zophar.net is a good place to start. Will have lots of links having to do with emulators.
You're on your own for the roms (those are illegal).
But, just to get you started, www.the-underdogs.info has some stuff (most of it is for PC, but there's a few SNES games on there: bahamut lagoon, front mission) I feel ok putting that site up, since they're good about taking things down if they're asked, and whatnot.
I'd tell you to be careful while looking for roms, because you'll run across lots of porn, but that seems silly on this board.

what the fuck you lookin at?
the roms are illegal and the emulators aren't?

technically, the emulator is just a program that imitates the hardware of something else.
If you're getting into certain types of emulators (playstation and sega cd come to mind) where you need a system bios, things get a little hazy (as the system bios is copyrighted material), but for the most part, yes the roms are illegal and the emulators aren't.
HOWEVER - if you own the game, the rom isn't legal, as it's technically just a backup copy of software you already own.

Doesn't feed trolls and would appreciate it if you
It's fortunate that so much of the old stuff is easily obtained for emulation. And with the newer consoles already so much like computers, it isn't hard to modify them that extra step and make them computers.

Point being, I'm often playing my Xbox more for Super Nintendo games than Xbox games. Playing Earthworm Jim at the moment!

As for legality, I'd imagine Nintendo, especially, will be cracking down prior to the launch of the Wii, where they'll be trying to re-release the ROMs of old games via their 'virtual console', I think.
