American Psycho... Did he or didn't he?

I'm watching American Psycho and I've seen it a couple times before, but I'm just wondering, for those of you that have seen it, if you think Patrick Bateman actually killed all those people. I, for one, don't think so. I think he definitely fantasized about doing it, but never acted on it. Thoughts?

I think he did it. Why? Because he's not a real man unless he actually did it.

I beat you to it.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
Because I saw that movie I can never listen to Sussudio by Phil Collins the same way ever again.

was bored out of my skull when i watched that film -- he has never done a decent film in his life imo.

the book is so much more warped; As for the posted question- that is the crux of the movie: INSANITY. he is insane.
But did he do it.... HELL YEA! That whole Bateman family is fucked up.

And he will do it again. The movie brings up also the concept of what is next that gets you off; you have ultimate money/power/etc...

SO WHAT NEXT??? warped murders??? (kinda like the first HOSTEL).

He's walking the fine line between sane/insane and living without consequence.

now pardon me; I have to return some videotapes and make a reservation at Dorsia...

Pucker Up Butter Cup.
Its left up to you to decide whether he did or didn't. I personally think he was dreaming, remember when he was drawing? I think he was killing them in his mind, its what he wanted to do but obviously couldn't. There was no way he could get away chasing a chick butt ass naked with a chainsaw through a hotel hallway. lol

Dunno but went on a double-date once and this was the movie.
Ya think i jagged a root that night ??????

yeahnar

Im going to say he did it. The big joke of the movie is that these male wall street yuppies are all alike and therefore dont recognize each other. That's why Batemen always gets away with the murders. He always has an alibie.

Yes. He either did or didn't do those things. That's what nice about art, you can go back to it again and again with new interpretations and you don't have to worry about being 'right' or if your interpretation is the 'correct' one. Re-read it as many times as you like with as many different spins on the character that you like and none of them will be wrong. Ever. :)

Good. I always thought it is one of those, It is up to you if he did it or not things.

Just a side note for those that don't know. Genevieve Turner, the screenwriter, is the redheaded lesbian friend of Pat Bateman in the movie . "Do you think I am a lesbian". Who in real life, a lesbian. She was also in "Watermelon Woman" where she has an awesome make out scene with a black woman. Sorry, I love interracial lesbians.

I think its all in his head. He is constantly striving to become the Bateman that he thinks he should be. This is where his obsession with looking good comes from. When he tries to book a table at Dosia's with Jean to show how important he is is a good example of this. He tells her that he can get a table anywhere, but when this backfires I think this is the only time where he was actually going to kill someone. When he stands behind her with the nail gun, that is real, but he cant go through with it. All the other times are in his imagination, and the diary at the end that Jean reads shows all the pictures he has drawn when he imagines this.

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
I think he did it. Why would he fantasize about killing the model, you see her head in the fridge when he's going for the sorbet.
But the question is, what happened to the bodies when he returns to Paul Allen's place.

I was thinking the real estate lady that told him not to come back, may have had the area cleaned up. Kind of like they expected those Wall Street types to cause messes like that. And she couldn't rent out a place where a bunch of murders took place.

i just think that he arrives at where he thinks Alan lived, but he never in fact did. The real estate lady sees that this guy is sweating, and acting strange and so asks him to leave before he frightens her clients
