Mike Judge: ‘Beavis and Butt-head’ returning to MTV in fall, all new and YouTube savvy

SAN DIEGO — When the ever-adolescent Beavis and Butt-head return to MTV in the fall — nearly two decades after their heyday — even their own network won’t be safe from the trash-talking duo’s mockery.

Creator Mike Judge came to San Diego’s Comic-Con on Thursday to talk about the reboot of his beloved animated characters and offer a peek at the new season, which is set to premiere in October.

In their new incarnation, the two perennial teens — still wearing their AC/DC and Metallica shirts — riff on music videos, YouTube submissions and MTV shows such as “Jersey Shore” and “Teen Cribs.”

“They’re also watching UFC fights,” Judge says.

The 48-year-old writer, who also voices many of his characters, says that besides Beavis and Butt-head, he hopes to tackle live-action dramas in his creative future.

Must admit that I did not see that coming! Ha ha ha! It should be interesting to say the least to see if it can be successful the 2nd time around. It looks like it will be a little different in that they won't just be watching and ragging on music videos this time.

Anyway, I though it was kind of surprising that Mike Judge was bringing it back (it was killed the 1st time so he could devote his time to King of the Hill. Should be also interesting to see if it is as controversial this time as well.

I'm excited about this, but I don't think the show will be as successful this time around because the concept of an irreverent cartoon is not new anymore. 20 years ago Beavis and Butthead was the only "adult" cartoon on tv. Today there are cartoons like South Park and Family Guy that feature the same kind of adult humor that popularized Beavis and Butthead in the 90's.

I think it will be good, especially if they're ragging on Youtube vids and some of the crap that's on the box these days.

Butthead was my favourite. (I said butt, hehehe).

That's all true, but remember Beavis and Butt-head were the original "adult" cartoon, and without them there would be no South Park or Family Guy.

Beavis and Arsehead should remain where they are, in the past. They should be remembered for nostalgia nothing more. After all nostalgia is a very powerful thing. As it shows here with them wanting to reboot the show. But some shows are better left alone to be remembered as they were. The A Team, V, Beavis and Butthead, to name a few.

Part of nostalgia is leaving it in the past. Not having it re-packaged and re-purposed for you.

Like the Transformers films and all the superhero films. I like some of them but honestly...give me netflix and all the old episodes/movies I loved originally.

Nostalgia is going back and looking what was made and what isn't around anymore.

I wonder if they are going to be the same age or if Beavis and Butt-head are going to be late 30 to early 40ish age people that are out of shape people that look older and still act like their past stupid selves while they are still broke and live together after not having made much of their lives since then.

I wouldn't want to bring the show back, but if I did I would do it like that just to show time passing and to show how they would have ended up if they aged with everybody else.
