Bear in mind many Afghans marry their cousins so whilst the rest of us would be disgusted at the thought of have sex with members of our own 'family' many Afghans wouldn't, I don't know if this is the case here but she could well have been related to her attacker so all in all it's a pretty fucked up situation.

True. But there are other cultures including in the Muslim community where if someone "took advantage" of the family member their feelings would be the same as ours and those cultures will marry within the family. I think and hope this is the lunatic fringe and not the mainstream Afghani. Unfortunately none of the Muslims I know are Afghani so what I would hear would be second hand.

Marrying cousins is usually a common thing in places folks live in small towns or villages as you don't have that many people to pick from compared to if you lived in a city. I bet if anyone here looked at their family tree I'd be you they'd find some cousins that married, hopefully in the old days as now that's not really going to fly in our modern society. However, what this guy did would not be condoned in any normal family, if anything he'd be the one to get punished and not the woman. I mean those guys there must really dislike women for this kind of stuff to go down and I'd like to believe this is an isolated case sort of like here where a guy beats up his girlfriend or wife but the common point of view there seems to be that women are lower than men. So ass backwards.
