Why are so many people hating on the Colts for resting their players at the end of the season? If Peyton played and was injured, you'd all be saying, "they should have rested their players, what are they thinking???"
Probably bitter Steelers/Broncos fans, whose teams would have made it in had the Colts beat the Jets.
They had a chance to make
history. Somebody wins the Super Bowl every year but no one has ever gone 19-0. Five years from now if you throw out the question "Who won the Super Bowl the '09 season?" people will have to think about it for a minute. But ask who had the perfect 19-0 season and
everyone will know.
The Colts had two relatively easy games to end the season but they chose to give them away. You know Peyton wanted the perfect season since he's always been compared to Brady and he would love to achieve what Brady failed to do in '07.
And if it's all about making sure the players don't get hurt...why did they play
at all the last three games? They'd already secured home field throughout the playoffs. Why did they play the first quarter in the snow in Buffalo? So they could pad their stats. Peyton wanted to cross the 4500 yards for the season and two of his reciever wanted to set personal records for receptions. What if they'd gotten hurt doing that?
Besides...I always laugh at this idea that "We'll play our guys for the first half then take them out for the second half because IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO EVER GET HURT IN THE FIRST HALF." Also...it's never been proven that resting players at the end of the season gives you an advantage. The Colts did it twice before and failed to make the Super Bowl.
That's why I want the Colts to lose. Because they made the decision to throw two games and not accomplish the greatest achievement possible in pro football.
