I can say:

He is right. It is astonishing, how great affordable guitars have become. I have bought a Squier Bullet Stratocaster last year, and it is almost perfect, for 200 Euros

Geesh, now I'm thinking of that Fender I used to have. They are kinda fun sometimes.

I used to be a Gibson guy all the way.

Now I am happy with my Squier, would upgrade some things like the nut, the bridge, get a new pickguard with better pickups, but other than that, just get a bigger amp

I play on an Epiphone Les Paul which is great, but when I play on a thin little strat, I feel like they are a faster play. The necks are fast and thin, the frets seem thin. I like em for that style of play.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
As long as the guitar is made from a good tone wood, and the neck is right, and the truss rod works....the rest can be redone.

I have a inexpensive Les Paul copy, but it's mahogany, and the neck, and truss rod are good. So, I bought a couple of DiMarzios. I haven't had them put in yet, but I figure it's no hurry, I haven't pulled it out in months. After I do that, new tuners.

For heavier music, I might look at an Epiphone SG model, seen Billy Gibbons play one recently in some videos

It is lighter than the Les Pauls. And Angus Young sounds good enough on them

That's one of the reasons Les Paul hated them, and refused to put his name to it. You see Mary Ford playing them, but I don't know if I've ever seen Les playing one. I think I heard some where that Les had a shitty relationship with Gibson.

I understand artists seeing this issue differently, especially those, who have their own signature models.

But as you already wrote, us everyday guys can get those lower-price alternative modes, and do some minor overhaus, when we feel like it.

Regarding putting in those DiMarzios - My first electric was a cheap Les Paul copy, and back then, I got Seymor Duncan humbuckers, and just took the original piockups out, cut the wires, and twirled the new wire aroiund the rests of the old wirings, for lack of a soldering iron

That new sound was like the sky having cleared, and the god of thunder sending his grace upon my teenage head

Humbucker upgrades will do a world of good.

I wanted to have them installed, because I was thinking of having them put in, out of phase, like Peter Green's old Les Paul, and I wanted to have it set up again. But more importantly, I just don't wanna fuck it up.

Old Devil, do it this week!

You will thank Adam and me afterwards.

Can't be THAT hard to find an electrician in your town.

No, not at all. I just spend to much money on cigars and bourbon. I know though, I gotta do it.
