Actor Wesley Snipes headed to prison for tax evasion

How naeve of me - I forgot that mr Snipes is black and therefore less important than most of the rich and famous.

What? That makes no sense at all. You just injected race into a story about a rich black guy who used money to prolong the "justice" process. Wow...

Anyway, he didn't evade taxes. He willfully refused to file and blatantly told the courts and IRS that he will not pay them because he's not Constitutionally obligated to do so (which is incorrect, obviously). Lots of people fail to file, both the rich and famous and those who are not rich and famous at all, very few ever face charges, let alone go to jail for it. This is a case of a guy who thought he had the better of Uncle Sam and called the g-ment's bluff.

It's ridiculous to lock somebody up in a jail cell because they didn't surrender 40% of their income, but in this case, if Snipes was a little smarter and a bit less cocky, this whole thing would already be behind him.

I believe he was given that opportunity on several occasions. He was literally convinced that he had no obligation to pay and refused. He had some knuckleheads "advising" him and now Nino lost the Carter.

eh not really any regular person woulda been in prison years ago

Celebrities in this climate (post OJ especially) seem to be made EXAMPLES of & actually seem to get more harsh sentences/punishments than a Joe Blow would.

Thus some zealous 'elected' DA(for political reasons) can show his constituents that he really is tough on crime.

The internet lynch mobs also go crazy once a celebrity is accused of something.
