A question for my British friends

How often does it snow in the U.K.? I'm an fan of the EPL, the English soccer league, and most of the games were canceled this week due to snow. I don't ever remember games being canceled due to snow and I believe games can be played in the snow. Was it just that conditions were so harsh that it was best to cancel the week's games?

Most, if not all of the EPL grounds have undersoil heating. The problems were outside of the ground and transportation. Most were cancelled because of safety concerns to the public.

You have British friends?

Normally in December, sometimes as late as January but not often. And Mr Richcris is right most grounds have under soil heating, so they shouldn't be cancelled most of the time anyways.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding this because last Sunday we got hit with a blizzard and the Bears/Pats game was still played under horrendous conditions, I don't think canceling the game was ever a possibility. American football games are rarely canceled due to snow or harsh conditions, these are the best games as a fan to watch. I guess that's just the difference between soccer and American football. Here's a video of the game conditions:

Yeah, we only cancel football games here when parts of the stadium collapse.

That's embarrassing. If you want to keep your NFL team at least have a stadium that doesn't have baggy for a roof.

Yes, it is very embarrassing when you live in fucking Minnesota. Historically, it does tend to snow there quite heavily during the winter. It's not like they were blindsided.

The citizens of Minneapolis aren't going to pony up for another stadium, so they might not have a team for very long. Hello, Los Angeles!

Once or maybe twice a year we get a moderate to heavy downfall, and by heavy I'm not really talking about the kind of heavy snow that actually warrants the term being used in such a context, I'm talking heavy in terms of what the British public can take before the entire country goes into meltdown and stops dead which is usually about an inch and a half of snow.

This year has been the worse for some time from what I can remember. Last year we had a few weeks like this but it was after Xmas in January/February I think. This year it's come early and hit people visiting family or travelling for Christmas, postal/courier service as well as the Xmas shoppers which has had a huge impact on the retail sector as they've lost many important trading days. Should be some mega bargains when the weather clears up as they look to bring in some revenue. Here in London they grit the main roads but not the sides roads and many people find they can't even drive off of their road that's if they can even get their vehicles started.

21 cm? Pathetic.

they were cancelled because of safety of the public on the motorways and surrounding roads of the stadiums. You in america and other countries might say you bever cancel out us and over here are soft but thats not the case the problem is the goverment/councils dont have a clue how to prepare and grit the roads and keep them safe. which after last year they should of had an idea. Very few people have 4x4s over here and many who do dont know how to drive them in the snow. everyone seems to drive at about 10mph. so if you wanted to get to one of them games on the weekend it would of taken ages. I live on the outskirts of manchester and on matchdays on a fine day takes me bout an hour to get to old trafford in snow it would of probs taken 5 time longer.

Is somewhere outhere.
Like what most folks say, they got cancelled mostly for the safety of the
supporters with regards to travelling to and from the game.

I think if they had've let the games go on there would still be a gridlock
in the middle of town today :1orglaugh

My mother, living in Ontario, had 21 centimetres of snow yesterday. Nothing at all was cancelled.

Fucking English pussies.

I should come over there and give you a piece of my mind  Just as soon as the snow clears up :shy:

i dont know about every 1 else i live on salt flats so its usualy sleat and flooding rather than snow but this is realy weird i have 8 inch of snow but it dosent stick together to make snowmen
