I saw this article on Yahoo! and I thought it would be a good thing to share with everyone. People usually get too little ***** and never realize the consequences that it can have. As someone who works a job that has no set length of workdays, work hours, or number of jobs in a given week I am well aware of the problems that can arise from not getting enough *****. I've had everything from just acting loopy to falling ****** on my feet while waiting for a video wall to be lowered.
The worst consequence of ***** deprivation that's happened to someone I know personally happened last summer. The Police played a show in a stadium nearby, which means that the gig was almost a whole week (for a show to happen in a stadium the stage has to be built, the management has to deal with oodles of logistical issues, and the production has to be installed, all of which take anywhere between 6 and 10 days of crews working around the clock). One girl that I know got on the gig all week as a production runner, which usually means you start work by 7 or 8 in the morning and you're usually not done until well after midnight. This girl lives in a city that's about 75 miles from the venue, so, to make it to work on time, she had to leave her house by 5:30 am, and wouldn't get home until after 2 am. After doing this for almost one week it finally caught up to her.
She got off work sometime around 2 am on the night of the show and she started heading home. On her way, as she was driving on a two-lane road, she fell ****** and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. She was in a **** for almost 3 weeks. She had suffered massive trauma to most of her body. The doctors said that it would be a miracle if she ever walked again, since there was a part of her hip missing.
Today she's as "fine" as one can be after an accident like that. She can walk using a cane, and she's tried going back to work, but her husband told me that the doctors told him that returning to work would be an almost certain impossibility for her. The ****** now has to deal with over a million dollars' worth of medical bills, and her 4-year-old has had to see his ****** fight for her life.
