a good free antivirus ?

Money has been tight and my anitvirus is up in a week does anyone one of a good free anitvirus or a good cheap one.
I currently use norton that runs anywhere from 50 to 75 american dollars but i found myself not getting on much days if it wasnt for facebook , video games and freeones i would never get on at all

sorry, there is no such thing as 'good free' anti-virus.
go to an electronics store (You Might need to hit a few) and search their bargain bins. find a copy of norton, mckafee, or kasperski, and get it for cheap. even if its an older copy, you should be able to install it and update it.

also watch for sales. a week after christmas i got kasperski 2010 for $15 (regular $85).

Once in a while, I listen to a computer expert on the radio. Her name is Kim Komando. She talks about some free virus software downloads she has on her website, and says they are as good as Norton or the others. You might try her site if money is tight. Plus, she's not bad looking either. :)

Avast or AVG
Microsoft has one as well.

I use all three at home on different PCs. I work as a sysadmin, and for home use, avast or avg work well (still on the fence about microsoft's product).

I wouldn't use them in a corporate environment, but for home use, they work just as well as mcafee or norton.

The most important thing is to keep whatever you use updated daily.

I would go with Avira. It out-performs the big boys in many reviews, and it has a great reputation for not bogging down your system performance.

I use AVG, Avira and Malwarebytes.

Stay away from unknown sites and running your AVs in safemode should solve most of your problems.

Switch to Linux

I've been Ubuntu for 4 years now and viruses are no more a problem.

You are more likely to get malware and adware before a virus, make sure you install Malware bytes and update it and run the scans daily, with installing an anti virus. Sorry I don't use free programs, don't want to tell you what's best without trying them all.

AVG isn't bad. Spybot does decent work as well, it just takes up a ton of memory.

I have used both AVG and Avira, and Avira is much better. Hell, Avira is better than Norton, but then again, isnt everything better than Norton? Last year, I was with a friend who was in Best Buy buying a new computer. He asked about an AV program, and I said out loud dont use Norton, and the people in the store agreed with me that Norton is one of the worst out there. Avira has been rated as best of the free, and in some cases, better than most that cost.

I would rather have no anti-virus than use Norton , thats how good it is

I would go with BestBuy when it comes to Norton and wait to buy it when they have a rebate offer. Even if you do not need it at the time, as long as it is the year you need, you get the rebate you are good to go.

In the meantime AVG I hear is decent. I am now hearing about this Avira.

What is with all this **** about Norton? I've used it since I've owned a computer and never had a problem. On the side I use Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster, McAfee SiteAdvisor, and MalwareBytes. Thing is Norton is a great antivirus.

have to disagree mate , I had Norton and everything gets through it , my PC didnt work properly the whole year I was tied to Norton , had other ones which were not bad , McAfee is the best going about , nothing gets through it , Ive had it for the last 4 years and not once have I had to do anything to it , I was always rebooting it with Norton every few days , it just became annoying , got McAfee and never had a problem since

Us frequent porn viewers are always subject to viruses. I find the easiest thing that I have done is keep a laptop for all important stuff, and porn up the pc...then when a virus inevitably comes, re-install OS and start over, it only takes abt 20 mins. Although there are viruses that can lurk through hard drives, they are rare.
