MOSS LANDING, Calif. (AP) — A friendly otter joined a couple celebrating a birthday in Northern California by jumping into one of their kayaks and making itself at home, rolling around and even nibbling on some shoes.
Heather VanNes said Wednesday she and her husband, John Koester, were celebrating his birthday Monday in a slough near Moss Landing and had just gotten in the water when they spotted a raft of otters.
They went by to watch them from a distance of at least 50 feet when one of the otters began swimming toward her husband's kayak and jumped right onto it.

Canadian Police Aplogize For Threatening Drunk Drivers With Nickelback
Let’s just be clear: DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
A police officer in Canada has apologized for threatening drunk drivers with Nickelback music after the message went viral and a spokesperson for the band reportedly requested it be taken down.
The humorous attempt to bring awareness to the dangers of drinking and driving by Prince Edward Island’s Kensington Police Service last week instead snowballed into one big Nickelback joke.
“Well, as we have seen, our little post became an international story,” the apology reads. “And somewhere in the noise, the message of Don’t Drink and Drive was overshadowed by negativity towards the band I said I would play if you did.”
The initial Facebook post was picked up by news outlets around the world and received mention during Weekend Update on “Saturday Night Live.”
“Let that be a lesson to all you drunk drivers out there,” host Colin Jost said. “Make sure the crash kills you.”
Apparently, Nickelback didn’t find any of this very funny. A representative for the band contacted the police department to demand that they take the threat down, TMZ reported.
