Interesting question, robjustknob. I don't think we're talking about the government regulating the porn industry per se. I think it is more an issue of the government getting up to date with realistic, contemporary laws regarding copyright infringement, and how to deal with both those distributing illegally obtained material AND those downloading it illegally. If governments spent the time to seriously overhaul copyright laws, a lot of this kind of trouble would simply go away. As it is, they're trying to make addendums, and bulk up the existing laws. The trouble is, those laws were written and conceived of when there was no INTERNET. Or CDs. The current laws need to be scrapped, and completely new, contemporary significant/relevant laws need to be drafted. And that's just too damned much work for any government, apparently.
Horseshit - porn will always be made, even without payment.
Porn has always been the most illeegaly downloaded thing but still there's more and more porn on the net.
The thing is high quality porn is getting kinda rare...
At least you make the sensual world on the net better
The other side of this is simply a morality issue. As much as I hate the commercial, the "you wouldn't download a car" thing has a point. We readily acknowledge that we have to pay for things we "need." Groceries, cars, houses, the average person would not commit grand theft auto (outside of the video game). We even acknowledge that we have to pay for things we merely want - pop, snacks, booze, etc. Somehow, as porn is something we want, don't need, and it's naughty, people sneak it, and feel good when they get away with sneaking it. Not cool.
Porn requires a lot of manhours to make. It requires the effort of the models. It's an industry, and they need to have salaries. If you can't pay for it, you probably shouldn't have it. There is plenty available that is free in legitimate ways - uh...say...FreeOnes? The tube sites (many of which are fair game to post here, by the way...Roald, perhaps you should re-evaluate that policy if you're going to post things like this :2 cents: ) just steal content. That's just shitty.
Yeah, many will say I'm just brown-nosing, but you are welcome to write your complaints on a piece of paper, fold it up very small, and then cram it up your ass. I'm in the music industry, and I know what it feels like, and how it cuts into profits, when people steal what you have worked very hard to produce.
Not giving people good jobs because you pirate stuff for free that one could easily pay for is just a jerk thing to do. Even if somebody is a jerk and doesn't care about the people in the industry they should still care though because eventually porn will start sucking if people don't keep paying for it. Sometimes you eventually get what you pay for, and if nobody pays for the productions then the quality will start to reflect that, and I think in some ways it already has started doing that.
I would rather see ultra hot women in good productions rather than, well,....the alternative.
Plus, if more women that are comfortable with the idea of doing it, they might do it if they have reasonable security in their life from a huge amount of cash they could get in it, rather than now where they just get a quick buck and have to deal with a lot of the negative consequences of the industry while continually running out of money after they are done with it. Maybe more of those hot models and women out there that might not have a problem with to doing porn it with all other things being equal, and whom a lot of people bitch about not going hardcore, might be a lot more willing to do it otherwise if the situations within the industry were better.
Unfortunately, a lot of people that just want things out there for free and can pay for them never think about stuff like that.
some valid points made in the article
they left out my personal favorites:
1) Much, much, much faster download speeds and availabilty of higher resolutions and quality of porn on paysites.
2) Much safer and effecient to use a legitimate pay site than using *******s and other means that are riddled with fuckin viruses
3) Better organization and all around ease of use of the website you paid for vs some bullshit half assed share site with a crap ass search engine
4) Price vs value is more than fair
With all that said Zolf knows that some folks still aint gonna pay for it because:
1) If you get it for free that is money left in your pocket to buy something else more important that you might need or want later
2) If given the opprotunity your average person is gonna try to bust a load for free.
How many people really like paying to catch a nut? Really?
Probably not many or none for that matter
Zolf thinks the article has already alluded to the fact that much like the music and film industries pirate hunt, the porn industries hunt will ultimately fail
there are simply too many pirates to catch and there aint really a way to enforce the laws without tryin to control the web
As a model with a solo site, I pay for all my own content shoots...this includes wardrobe, make-up and hair stylist, photographer, videographer, location, food for everyone, sometimes an assistant...it can cost quite a bit for a high end shoot to produce quality content. I also edit my own photos and videos which takes hours! When people join my site and then steal all my videos, it takes money right out of my bottom line. I work HARD and appreciate those who recognize that and pay for my site. I understand wanting things for free but it gives you an entirely different perspective when you are on my side of the fence.
Illegal downloads are easy to get away with, as long as it's easy many people will do it. For example, many people wouldn't commit grand theft auto or or rob a bank not because they don't want to but because it's difficult.
While that might be true for some, there are a lot of people out that that might pirate electronic stuff that would never steal a physical object, not because they are concerned about whether or not they can get away with it, but because they either see it as not as nearly as wrong or they don't see pirating data as the same as "stealing" in the classical sense of the term.
