Just wanted to give this a bump since we've got 4K sites popping up like boners at an AVN expo floor show. First, the good news and then the bad news. We've now got several Naughty America sites putting out 4K, Girls Do Porn is shooting in 4K (but not releasing 4K vids), Tiny4K (a site with petite girls taking on monster-sized cocks) is up and running, Huccio (the site that claims to be the first for 4K) is still around but not updating, and TeenFidelty/PornFidelity is moving to 4K per Ryan Madison's Twitter feed. Starting this holiday season, there will be more 4K monitors available but things won't pick up until next year when new hardware for 4K hits with next year's GPUs, so don't bother buying one yet.
Now for the bad news. For whatever reason, the people in charge of shooting the content are not shooting it at the right resolution. All the 4K content being put out is at 4096 x 2180 instead of 3840 x 2180, which is just wrong. 4096 is a wide resolution used for shooting film/tv projects and is only used in professional applications, whereas 3840 x 2180 is a straight 16:9 resolution otherwise known as "UltraHD" and it is the resolution used by almost all 4K TVs and monitors. If any of you are close to or know anyone who is shooting content for these sites or any other, please tell them to shoot in the right resolution because the vids don't display well due to their wider resolution and the 4096 resolution is not supported by current video decoding hardware.
Now for some great news! Next year will obviously bring more 4K monitors but it will also bring LARGER 4K monitors as well, built on UHDTV hardware. In 2015, Seiki is going to be launching a 40-inch monitor with the latest tech and several other companies are also expected to put out large 4K displays for consumers and professionals. So, if you want 4K on your desktop, you'll get it. If not, you can just buy a nice big UHDTV and use a media player box to decode the clips you download.
If anyone has any questions regarding the kind of hardware needed for 4K playback, I'll put together a post with all the information later in the year as I learn more about the upcoming hardware that will serve that purpose.
