300,000 Animals To Be Slaughtered At Festival

Normally I would say that if they were going to be slaughtered for consumption then there is some could argue a justifiable argument for the slaughter. But I dont think this is the case with this, so its seems very bizarre to slaughter this number of animals purely for one short festival.

Heres some more gorey detail as to what actually happens here, this source actually mentions upto 200,000 animals:

Animal rights groups and activists including the actress Brigitte Bardot have condemned the event, which takes place every five years in the Nepalese village of Bariyarpur.

Who the heck is Brigitte Bardot? Why is she singled out as "The Actress" in this protest group?

Well over million people are said to show up at this gathering and given that the biggest animal on the menu is buffalo, following sheep, goats, pigs (yum), birds and rats. They will need a lot of meat to keep that gathering satisfied main meal wise. However, next time you look at a McDonald's yellow M and underneath it where it says 99 billion served and counting... Yeah. Get off your high horse. Just because a country is holding a ceremony that is going to involve 300,000 animals slaughtered at once to feed the million there. Imagine how many animals are slaughtered over a period of time to feed just North American. Then add Canada and Europe to it all.

I'm sure if they took the goddess out of it they would still hold it because it is where people come together and enjoy a meal. Obviously a lot of food will be needed to feed over a million people attending.

Meat is eaten every day. As is plants, fruits, and vegetables.

I'm assuming that they're going to be eating the meat from the sacrificed animals and use various parts of their bodies (leather, skin, bones, etc) in a useful manner, so I don't see what the big deal is. We (as humans) sacrifice millions of animals every single day, but it's just accepted because we don't call it "sacrificing"; we call it eating. :dunno:

This has me thinking ,how many turkeys will americans consume on thanksgiving day.Must be in the 10's of millions. Not that I'm complaining or anything, it just is a big number and a lot of turkeys when you think about it.
