25 hardest video games

With time and patience I've beaten Call of Duty 4 on Veteran and got all of the achievements. For the life of me though I can't beat Ninja Gaiden 1 or 2.

LOL 1st Post on Freeones is about Gaming.

Shadow of Rome for PS2 was insane, even harder then Ninja Gaiden and unfair.

I only disagree with a couple of those like the Mega Man ones, but most of them were spot on. Ghost and Ghouls was especially bad. I don't know who came up with a game where you can basically take two hits before you die. The most frustrating part was when I made it pretty far in the game and them some crap happened and it was all for nothing.

One game that I think they left out that I always though was hard is Marble Madness. My God, what an infuriating game, and it wasn't like I was a video game novice when I played it. I don't think I have ever made it very far in it.

If anyone ...

If anyone knows how to deal with the Mongols in Medieval II: Total War, they always kick my butt -- in tactical mode or auto-resolving from the strategic map.

I know it's not a game, but what about "Supply Lines" the mission from San Andreas?
If you played that mission on the first copies of the game, it was pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to beat.

i have beaten 2 metal slugs (and played 4 of them) and they seemed no harder than any regular quarter pumping arcade game of yore....same for contra (i beat 2 or 3 of them i think)...honestly i played a lot of these older arcade games as a kid so i don't remember them all that well...and a lot of the games the listed were set to their highest levels. but the games that i always loved were the metal gear solids and i beat the original playstation version, sons of liberty and snake eater on all levels :D yay for me!

I have to say, i've played almost every game on that list (except the shooters like R-type which i never liked) and that list is pretty much spot on, ESPECIALLY that fucking Ninja Gaiden. Fucking Alma. Fuck.

Edit: Wait. Guitar Hero? Really? get that off there.

What a crappy list!
Portal? COD4?

It feels like those kind of lists are just made with some random out-of-the-ass picks to make it seem professional. I can name 50 retro games that are ten times what Veteran COD4 is. Games today are like taking a piss compared to the nightmarishly unforgiving games of the past.

See the thing with the games of Yesteryear is that they are as difficult because of the lack of depth to them. Think about it. The length of each section [or level] from the older games, if they were too easy you'd finish the game in a matter of minutes, not hours [or days or weeks, ect]. Games of today are a lot more immersive and have more depth hence the lack of the Darth Vader style of evil in the form of the difficulty of yesteryear. They dont need to be too difficult today because the games are a lot longer and bigger in level design.

Upping the difficulty of a game [any game] is there to hide the lackings elsewhere.
