I don't get #3. As far as I know you aren't allowed to jump on somebody to gain height while jumping so that isn't a problem, and effectively jumping completely over somebody to get a block on a punt in is borderline impossible unless the blocker is lying on the ground or something. Even if you could do it the jumper isn't going to be landing on his feat and making it to the punter until he gets back up, and by then the punt will be long done with. It seems like a solution that's in search of a problem.

As far as moving the kickoffs up, why even pretend to have what are effectively non-plays? At least it's mitigated by moving touchbacks out a little.
I agree, number three is a little odd.

The playoff system they are thinking about is half-assed, and will be until they go to 8 or 16 teams in it, but at least it's better than before. It sad it only took a couple of decades of bitching by fans of the sport before they even seriously thought about it.

So the bowls are essentially the semifinals? Bowls finish, top 2 teams play for NC? And the NC goes to the bowl who bids the highest? It's still only about money.

As usual, but translating that to wins is what has eluded them. It's nice to have coaches who are great recruiters, but it's pretty important to have coaches who can, you know, coach.

FSU needs two things to happen to be national contenders this year.....

1-Consistently decent-good QB play
2-Solid OL play

If those two things happen, you will see an undefeated Nole team in '12.

Your problem stems from being born about a half a century too late ;)

But at least your team HAD its glory days.

My two favorite teams have totaled exactly ONE split national championship between them over the course of about 160 seasons

USC, LSU, Alabama, Oregon (my team), Oklahoma, Michigan and West Virginia (yeah, I said it) are top NC contenders right now, IMO. Of course, that could change Week 1.

The new playoff system is just another way for the rich to get richer and keep the less fortunate where they are. Its a start but its nowhere near fair. Whatever you think of the Boise's or the TCu's, they deserve a chance to prove themselves under a playoff format if they earn it, theyve bitten big guys in bowlng in bowl games so they do have a chance if given one. The problem for the BCS commitee became that teams like Boise started crashing their big boys only party and they didnt like it so they needed a new system to screw them out of the process without looking greedy, they dont want the inferior conferences to be collecting massive paychecks. Until it goes to 8 the system will be imperfect but this is a start.

Any playoff is certainly better than the bullshit we have now. 4 teams is just a start. I'm sure they did this to build hype/demand for a bigger field. Last year, CBS proposed a 6 team playoff with the top 2 teams getting a bye the first week of a playoff. It was quite interesting, but an 8 team playoff is ideal. Honestly, it shouldn't go beyond 8. Any more than that would just be ridiculous.

I think 4 teams is enough. Anything more than that becomes like basketball which is definitely a path to destruction. Last year was a complete implosion of the system.

I have to agree that the basketball playoff system is a disaster.

As for football, I'm sure at some point, they will expand it to 6 or 8. The only problem I have with the new system is technically, they may not take the top 4 as a selection committee picks the teams. Under the new system, Alabama would not have even made the playoffs last year, because they were not a conference champion.

The whole point of a playoff is to let the BEST top teams duke it out... whether it's 2, 4, 6 or 8.

Anyone who doesn't think Bama was one of the best teams last season needs to find a new sport to watch... like women's golf, or bowling.

And ESPN is reportedly ready to start covering video game tournaments! That'll get the post count up around here!

I don't dispute that Bama was one of the best teams, but it doesn't change the fact that if the new system had been in place last year, Bama would not have made the 4 team playoff due to them not being a conference champion. The real problem was the complete elimination of the BCS. What they should have done was kept the BCS poll in place and then the top 4 of the final poll would be your playoff teams.

And that is EXACTLY why the new system is just as or more flawed than the current one. The second best team in the SEC record wise is better than most if not all the other conference champions most years... no offense to the other conferences, it's just a fact.

I like the 6 team format personally. 2 top teams get a bye, then 4 teams play to see who moves on. When the numbers get bigger than 6 or 8, it just becomes unmanageable IMHO.
