I agree, number three is a little odd.I don't get #3. As far as I know you aren't allowed to jump on somebody to gain height while jumping so that isn't a problem, and effectively jumping completely over somebody to get a block on a punt in is borderline impossible unless the blocker is lying on the ground or something. Even if you could do it the jumper isn't going to be landing on his feat and making it to the punter until he gets back up, and by then the punt will be long done with. It seems like a solution that's in search of a problem.
As far as moving the kickoffs up, why even pretend to have what are effectively non-plays? At least it's mitigated by moving touchbacks out a little.
As usual, but translating that to wins is what has eluded them. It's nice to have coaches who are great recruiters, but it's pretty important to have coaches who can, you know, coach.
Does anybody have a shot at the national championship besides USC, Alabama or LSU?
Doesn't look like it to me.
The new playoff system is just another way for the rich to get richer and keep the less fortunate where they are. Its a start but its nowhere near fair. Whatever you think of the Boise's or the TCu's, they deserve a chance to prove themselves under a playoff format if they earn it, theyve bitten big guys in bowlng in bowl games so they do have a chance if given one. The problem for the BCS commitee became that teams like Boise started crashing their big boys only party and they didnt like it so they needed a new system to screw them out of the process without looking greedy, they dont want the inferior conferences to be collecting massive paychecks. Until it goes to 8 the system will be imperfect but this is a start.
I think 4 teams is enough. Anything more than that becomes like basketball which is definitely a path to destruction. Last year was a complete implosion of the system.
I have to agree that the basketball playoff system is a disaster.
As for football, I'm sure at some point, they will expand it to 6 or 8. The only problem I have with the new system is technically, they may not take the top 4 as a selection committee picks the teams. Under the new system, Alabama would not have even made the playoffs last year, because they were not a conference champion.
And ESPN is reportedly ready to start covering video game tournaments! That'll get the post count up around here!Anyone who doesn't think Bama was one of the best teams last season needs to find a new sport to watch... like women's golf, or bowling.
The whole point of a playoff is to let the BEST top teams duke it out... whether it's 2, 4, 6 or 8.

I don't dispute that Bama was one of the best teams, but it doesn't change the fact that if the new system had been in place last year, Bama would not have made the 4 team playoff due to them not being a conference champion. The real problem was the complete elimination of the BCS. What they should have done was kept the BCS poll in place and then the top 4 of the final poll would be your playoff teams.
