2010 NCAA Football Bowl Challenge

Oh, look, the NCAA just faxed me a letter and they've lifted the bowl ban :thefinger

I actually think there are some great matchups...HOWEVER...there appears to be so much uncertainty with coaches and players that I sort of have to figure things out differently. Like Florida, for example. I see no way that they will be motivated to play the game. They had a crappy season. The new coach is already putting feelers out about changing the Gator O philosophy for 2011...none of this bodes well for a good game :( There are plenty of situations like that with other teams. Some of these tasty matchups on paper might turn into dud-r-oos.....

New Mexico: BYU vs UTEP -- This is known as the "Let's make up a bowl to give two unworthies a chance to play" bowl
Winner: BYU

Humanitarian: Fresno State vs Northern Illinois -- Another season of promise for Pat Hill and the Valley ends up in Boise and in obscurity...but there's always next season! -- the familiar mantra of Fresno State
Winner: Northern Illinois (in a close one)

New Orleans: Troy vs Ohio -- On paper this is zzZZZzz. In reality, it might be decent.
Winner: Troy

St. Petersburg: Louisville vs Southern Mississippi -- Another questionable bowl; however, this might be a decent game.
Winner: Louisville (close win)

MAACO: Utah vs Boise State --The $13mil-for-WAC-down-the-tubes Bowl
Winner: Boise State (regional rivalry maybe?)

Poinsettia: San Diego State vs Navy -- this is a tasty little matchup for San Diego. Big Navy town. Normally the Asstecs are long forgotten locally, but maybe this is the year they pull a shocker win.
Winner: SDSU (head says Navy, but SDSU just reupped the coach)

Hawaii: Tulsa vs Hawaii --Another "Well, why not?" Bowl
Winner: Tulsa

Little Caesars: Toledo vs Florida International --aka The Coin Flipper Bowl
Winner: FIU :dunno:

Independence: Air Force vs Georgia Tech --over/under on 5 total passes attempted in this game
Winner: GTech (overall better athletes @ GTech take this one.)

Champs Sports: West Virginia vs North Carolina State --I liked this matchup before all the crap hit about replacing WVU's coach...
Winner: NCState

Insight: Iowa vs Missouri -- pretty good matchup here.
Winner: Mizzou

Military: Maryland vs East Carolina--pretty meh matchup here.
Winner: East Carolina

Texas: Illinois vs Baylor--The "I can't believe Illinois even made it to a Bowl" Bowl
Winner: Damn. No clue on this one. Baylor stinks too. Illinois

Alamo: Oklahoma State vs Arizona--great matchup here
Winner: Arizona (Pac10 rises up)

Armed Forces: SMU vs Army--the "Good Grief" Bowl
WInner: SMU

Pinstripe: Syracuse vs Kansas State
Winner: KState (even if they don't want to play, they'll still win)

Music City: North Carolina vs Tennessee -- The Distraction Bowl I
Winner: Tennessee Pretty much a home game for the Vols.

Holiday: Nebraska vs Washington -- The Lionel Ritchie "Hello" game
Winner: Nebraska (this is the spot USC should be in. Even though Washington would like a REVENGE WIN, the Huskers will win again)

Meineke: USF vs Clemson
Winner: Clemson (wanted to go with USF, but Clemson HAS TO SHOW UP at some point this season. Why not now?)

Sun: Miami (Fla) vs Notre Dame -- The Distraction Bowl II
Winner: The Dirkys This was a tasty matchup but with The U in ~chaos~ with coaches looking for work...this is an ND win even though they have their own issues circling their program...

Liberty: Georgia vs UCF
Winner: Georgia Easy win for the Dawgs

Chick-fil-a: Florida State vs South Carolina TASTY MATCHUP!!!
Winner: =======;;==> (I think the Cocks are still smarting from the SECC beatdown they took)

Ticket City: Northwestern vs Texas Tech --The Jilted Lovers Bowl?
I think both coaches thought they'd get thrown a ladder to new jobs!
Winner: Northwestern

Outback: Florida vs Penn State The Distraction Bowl III
Winner: Penn State (I don't see how the Gators will show up for this one)

Capital One: Michigan State vs Alabama TASTY MATCHUP
Winner: Maildude State (I think Bama's players have the NFL in their eyes. Another bowl game ~meltdown~ awaits.)

Gator: Michigan vs Mississippi State--The Distraction Bowl IV
Winner: Mississippi State (It appears Rich Rod is out win or lose)

Rose: Wisconsin vs TCU --The Snot-nosed Slobber Knocker Bowl
Winner: Wisconsin (arguably the best team in the nation now. Will they keep the momentum or will that deep freeze turn them to RUST?)

Fiesta: Connecticut vs Oklahoma --The Young Upstart vs King Kong Bowl
Winner: King Kong (Big Game Bobby won't get Boiseyd AGAIN will he?)

Orange: Stanford vs Virginia Tech -- The Who Blinks First is a Pussy Bowl
Winner: Stanford (I see low-scoring and lots of scrums.)

Sugar: Arkansas vs Ohio State The Sexy Porn Pic Bowl
This one looks like **** porn, but The Luckeyes will administer a beatdown
Winner: Ohio State

Go-daddy: Middle Tennessee vs Miami (Ohio) --The Enough Already Bowl
Winner: Certainly not the tv advertisers. Miami

Cotton: LSU vs Texas A&M --Slobber Knocker II
Winner: LSU (Another close, 13-9 type game)

BBVA Compass: Pittsburgh vs Kentucky --The (*&$ We Had a Good Game Until.. Bowl
If only Pitt strung Wannstadt along a bit...
WInner: Kentucky

Kraft: Nevada vs Boston College--The "What? This is all we get" Bowl
Winner: Nevada (sucks that they aren't in a better bowl)

BCS Championship: Auburn vs Oregon
Winner: Oregon and it won't be that close friends.
Heisman Trophy winners usually stink up bowl games. Oregon will win 45 - 20 or greater! Oregon has experience with taking on Terrell Pryor from last year's Rose. I don't see how Auburn hangs with Oregon after halftime.

Nice analysis, TR :D

But I'm not sure who you picked in this one. I think you picked FSU based on the =====;;==> but please clarify for the record...

Chick-fil-a: Florida State vs South Carolina TASTY MATCHUP!!!
Winner: =======;;==> (I think the Cocks are still smarting from the SECC beatdown they took)

Haha wow...I'm the only one who has picked UTEP so far... I'm gonna look so awesome if they win but if they lose, I'll look like a complete asswipe.

Glad to see a good turn out for the challenge. 14 players so far with 36 hours to go

No problem my friend :glugglug:
I came very close to picking Auburn too :1orglaugh

Rose: Wisconsin vs TCU (Maybe the best match-up, but Wisconsin's O-line is too much)
Fiesta: Connecticut vs Oklahoma (Looks like we finally end that BCS losing streak)
Orange: Stanford vs Virginia Tech (Another great match-up, so I'll give the edge to the better QB)
Sugar: Arkansas vs Ohio State (OSU needs to be running that Auburn/Oregon offense if they want to win)
Go-daddy: Middle Tennessee vs Miami (Ohio)
Cotton: LSU vs Texas A&M
BBVA Compass: Pittsburgh vs Kentucky
Kraft: Nevada vs Boston College
BCS Championship: Auburn vs Oregon (I hope I'm wrong, but Cam is just too good. I think Auburn wins on the final drive.)

^^^
thanks Shrum I'm flattered you think I'll go 35 and 0 :D ....but if you want to be in the contest could you please pick at least one game different from my pick, otherwise we'd end up with a split championship, and nobody likes those ;)

OK entries are now closed.

15 of us will battle for The Crown

Good luck, everyone :hatsoff:

Yumi if you want to you can still get in. Go ahead and pick the remaining 32 games and we'll just consider you to have forfeited the first three games to start 0 and 3.

Dirk 3
Jagger 3
Titsrock 3

Sky 2
Maildude 2
