I'm cool with Brent Musburger. He doesn't annoy me. I think Herby is a topnotch commentator. He is very objective and provides solid analysis, imo.

I always thought Gary Thorne (former ESPN hockey announcer) should do College Football games. He's got a great voice.

Wowww....GREAT D!! Fairly is an animal!!

What kind of witch doctor does Jay Jacobs look like now for hiring Chizik??

Tough break for Ducky. But you can only go to the well so many times on 4th down. I do like their gutsy play calling though.

Auburn can really apply some pressure with a TD here, but this game is far from over.

(The o/u was 73... not gonna get there.)

I'm digging the Oregon neon green shoes/socks combo. Looks sweet on tv.
I suppose the effect is to make them look like duck feet. Pretty cool effect.

BTW, anyone remember what the actual school colors are for UO??:dunno:
Chip Kelly is a fucking asshat. Just answer the lovely Erin Andrews's questions nimrod. Is it asking too much?

That was pretty lame showing her up like that. WTF was that....'that's why we're here'?? Sheesh...

On a side note...Cam looks a little sluggish as do the rest of the Tigers....why don't they wait to have the banquet circuits until AFTER the big game???

I wanna piss in Brent Musburger's lunchtime Pepsi.
Also...if Oregon doesn't get their shit together they will be in the pasture with no sheep.:horse: Or horses.

WTF??????? Kick it?? Didn't Chizik hear about Boise St.??????

Did someone spike Cam's gatorade? The guy has be dragging ass since the first qtr.

Lol. Auburn forcing Oregon to punt.

Both have great offenses. The difference?? Defense.

Oregon has the 14th best scoring defense in the nation. Despite the fact that they are on the field a long time and face more possessions cuz of the nature of their offense, not to mention they are in a heavily offensive minded league in the Pac-10. Auburn has the 54th best scoring defense. And Darron Thomas' passing numbers are actually comparable to Cam Newton's. That Auburn pass defense is atrocioius. 105th in the country.

Hard to really appraise what those particular stats actually reflect if they're relevant at all.

Consider these factors; Auburn has played 5 teams in the BCS final 25 6 times (So. Car twice). Oregon has played just 1.

Also, Auburn is ranked 54th...but what does that actually mean? In the extreme it could just mean 53 other teams played schedules with more bad offensive teams on them than did Auburn.:dunno:

You say the Pac 10 is score happy, yet Stanford shutout 3 conference opponents and was on their way to shutting out a 4th but their 3rd stringers conceded 2 4th qtr. TDs.:o

Auburn seemingly couldn't stop Alabama's offense in the first half but held them to 1 FG in the second half.

Just pointing out why the practice of just looking at raw stats like those without having a good grasp on other relevant considerations can be misleading.

Yumi....

Congrats to the Tigers. :glugglug:

Let's all meet here in five years to laugh at them after they vacate the title and Newton returns his Heisman for receiving improper benefits.

Agreed, the only problem with watching this game is having to listen to Musburger.

Musburger isn't bad, but Verne Lundquist is the one that irritates the hell out of me. The man constantly makes mistakes and can't even count! Still, I can tolerate even him. The one I really can't stand is Kirk Herbstreit.

That's not really a fair comparison because South Carolina has always been more of a football school than anything else. North Carolina's a basketball school that's had occasional flirtations with being a good football program while having some really good players pass through the program on into the pros. Butch is a good coach and he's been able to recruit some talent there, the only thing left is to be a consistent winner.

They've always recruited well, there is potential there. When Mack Brown was there, they were quite often a top 10 team. If only Florida State wasn't around then.

I'm digging the Oregon neon green shoes/socks combo. Looks sweet on tv.

It actually is pretty boss, except for the the fact that the uniforms are taking a piss on their actual school colors.

Auburn almost has to win because they're never getting back to this game again once Cam Newton leaves.

This is true. Really same situation with Arkansas also, with Mallett. This was the odd year where Alabama, Georgia, and Florida all had down years, and LSU didn't meet their potential either. Not gonna be the case in most years.

He's also the same one who calls Purdue's basketball coach "Matty Painter" instead of Matt Painter. He's not a fucking third grader, he's a collegiate coach. No one else in the world calls him that. Why does Brent? Unless you're John Gruden, you don't get to give people nicknames. He calls Peyton Manning "The Sheriff," and I'm okay with that.

:1orglaugh: Btw Mark Reynolds was the sheriff before Peyton Manning was.

I always thought Gary Thorne (former ESPN hockey announcer) should do College Football games. He's got a great voice.

Gary Thorne was awesome. I don't even like hockey but I used to watch it largely cuz of him.

If they played again next weekend I'd pick Oregon once again.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Notes on the game:

Who were the idiot(s) that selected the sod on the field? Both teams had trouble all night with slipping.

Dyer was the offensive player of the game. I've said all year that he wasn't getting enough playing time, and look how good he did on a slippery field!

Fairley was the defensive player of the game. He played great, and really came thru when it was needed.

I knew the outcome of this game would hinge on how well Auburn's defense played, and they were truly AUsome! I didn't think it was possible, but they played even better that they did in the SEC Championship game!

From the very start, Cam Newton looked like he was out of breath. What was that about?

As for the officiating, all the flags that were thrown (but maybe 1) were proper calls, but the thing that disturbed me was this; Oregon had at least 13 plays that should have been flagged, but apparently, the refs were looking elsewhere.

One of the weirdest games I've ever seen in my life, but I think the outcome was legit. Auburn was the better team. I was really pulling for Oregon to win that game. I'm just tired of seeing the SEC winning all the time.

Oh, well. Maybe next year? :dunno:

Congrats to Auburn on your BCS championship and on your shared National title. There is still another undefeated team out there so be nice and share. For the record I will say that I think Auburn would beat TCU by about two scores. TCU has however beaten every team put in front of them so they get a share in my book.

NCAA Football play-offs now!!!!

Congrats to the Tigers. :glugglug:

Let's all meet here in five years to laugh at them after they vacate the title and Newton returns his Heisman for receiving improper benefits.

Are you saying it will take five years for them to uncover that or that it will be sort of like a happy little reunion after the fact in five years at their expense? :1orglaugh

Congratulations to Auburn, it's fans and alumni :hatsoff:

I HATED to see the game potentially decided by that "suspended animation" play where even the runner was sure he was down. But so it goes....when it comes to the Ducks it's always something :1orglaugh

Having James unavailable on the drive where they failed to score from the one yard line also really hurt.

Credit Auburn's D with some timely and well conceived run blitzes. They changed the tenor of the game a lot. And Chip may have over-coached a little at moments tonight. Maybe. But it was still a memorable season - so near and yet so far..... who knows, maybe next year they'll finally make it :D

Congratulations to Auburn University on their 2010 National Championship.

The state of Alabama has completely imploded and Bama fans just have to suck on it. Everything they accomplished in 2009 was overshadowed and the final nail was put in the coffin last night with Auburn University winning the National Championship.

If they played again next weekend I'd pick Oregon once again.

Having seen the way the game turned out last night..I would say that would be a mistake as Auburn would probably win by 3 TDs a week from now.

Even though the game was still in doubt after Cam's fumble, Auburn was the better team and it could have been worse last night.

For all the talk of UO's superior conditioning, which they are in great shape...Auburn was the team pounding down on them last night at the end of the game. Sometimes, size does matter.:o

The only part of me that expected (or wanted) UO to win was the part that says bodie54 is one of my friends here...aside from that the game went about the way I expected from a defensive perspective. With their talent on D, Auburn sees read option/zone blocking all the time in the SEC against some of the best athletes in college ball (starting with the offense they scrimmage against everyday in practice). :2 cents:

I suppose you could say the same of UO's D but I would say the difference is Auburn plays game speed against top 25 teams all the time who employ it to some degree...not the scout offense.
