2010-2011 NCAA Basketball Thread

Am I the only one willing to give the Devil's their due??? Duke has absolutely nothing going for them athletically in any of the major sports but basketball, and yet they're hated dearly. They're a good team with and excellent coach who recruits kids with an interest in winning a national championship.

Not being a one-and-done.

Not because Michael Jordan went to that school.

Not because the coach has a history of making high draft picks.

But because Duke will be contention every year. Because the coach will give you an opportunity at cutting down the nets. So why the hate??? I understand why Tarheel fans hate the Devils, but I'm interested in knowing why everyone else does.

Everyone hates the Yankees. Everyone hates the Cowboys. Even when these teams are down people hate them. Just look at Notre Dame football.

The Tarheels should be better, Barnes and Bullock should be good but it'll be another team full of one-and-done wannabes. Behind Curry and Irving, Duke will win the ACC again.

i doubt that cause Scheyer will be gone. Singler and Smith will probably leave cause their stocks aint going no higher.

P.S. Carolina might just might be signing the third Plumlee brother who I have heard is better than the older two. *Crosses fingers*

Thats true. Everyone hates the New England Patriots too just because they are so damn hateable. Alot of people also hate USC football.

But this is college athletics. Unlike the Cowboys and the Yankees, Duke can't buy the best talent on the market. It's the same with Notre Dame football. Duke recruits guys that have an interest in winning and can hang with the academic standards in order to play for 3 or 4 years and graduate. Shouldn't all the schools be more like that?

Everybody knows that it's hard to win at a high level with a team of brand new guys, the best of which are out there to audition for the pros for that following year. Duke wins so often because their players come back every year. There's never a time where Duke lacks senior leadership. That leadership is able instill the Coach K system and execute. Guys like John Calipari don't seem to be interested in that. It's hard to just out-talent squads to a championship.

The Tarheels will be okay. They'll get some guys that are gonna stay long enough to get this whole thing right. If you're looking for a national championship for Calipari coached team, dont hold your breath.

Wow, if Purdue loses JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore, we're going to be hurting next year. Rob can't hold the team together on his own. We have the potential (again) to make a run at the Final Four if everyone sticks around. But losing either one of those two would make it nearly impossible.

A report from ESPN regarding tourney expansion and TV coverage of the Big Dance:

The NCAA is on the verge of expanding the men's basketball tournament from 65 to 68 teams beginning next year and has a new, $10.8 billion TV deal that will allow it to show every game live.

The NCAA said Thursday that the Division I Men's Basketball Committee unanimously passed the proposal and it will now be reviewed by the Board of Directors on April 29.

The NCAA also said it reached a new, 14-year agreement with CBS Sports and Turner Broadcasting System Inc. that is worth more than $10.8 billion. The deal, which runs from 2011 through 2024, will show every game live across four national networks for the first time.

The new agreement calls for opening-round games, first-round games and second-round games to be shown nationally on CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV. I think Oregon is a pretty good job, but it is not better than Pitt or Mizzou, and Stevens and Few either are scared of moving on and losing comfortability, or are holding out for better jobs in the future.

The Illini got some good news when Mike Davis and Demetri McCamey have also decided to return to the Big Ten for one more year. It wouldn't surprise me if the Big Ten does in fact lead all conferences in RPI next season, considereing the fact that Michigan State, Ohio State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Northwestern are capable of punching their tickets to the Big Dance.

And if Rob comes back healthy, we should definitely be one of the favorites to win it all. On Saturday, JJ tweeted "Final Four or die." That certainly sums up the mentality here.

Interesting development regarding Michigan State coach Tom Izzo - there's been a report that he's been offered the head coaching position for the Cleveland Cavaliers, though IMO it would have to take serious money plus a 100% guarantee that LeBron James wil stay in Cleveland in order for Izzo to take any offers from Cavs owner Dan Gilbert.

Pending Nebraska's move to the Big Ten conference, it seems that the Big 12's days are numbered. It seems now that the Pac-10 will eventually become a superconference of the NCAA field, while questions remain for other Big 12 teams such as Kansas, Kansas St., Iowa State, and Missouri.
