Yeah, I know he said what he did. Thing is, she didn't have to curse like she did; she still did though. She was, indeed, frantic and probably freaking out seeing her *** like that she did not once think about the F-word. She reacted emotionally, hysterical emotions. How many times have we suddenly hurt ourselves and before we knew it we let out a high decibel curse word?
The dispatcher, he should never had done what he did, I can see calming them down and -- in subtle fashion -- you do not need to curse. Yet, he called her an ass, denied ambulance, and would not ask what's wrong and would hang up. Then arrested her when she came in on no existing legal charge. He should be fired, ultimately. The department should be left alone; take this guy to court not the department.

Also, she will receive a large sum suing them not the individual.

They need a complete overhaul.
I know. And yes operators seem to be the bad apples of a PD (most the time). However, if sue the PD then they go down, layoffs, cutbacks, and all that sort will happen, and, well, we know what happens there. Which is why most tend to settle before it turns nasty and public and real money is loss.
The dispatcher was in the complete wrong in the whole situation. Especially given she called 3 times and when she walked there she was harassed and then arrested. I hope the PD learns a lesson, especially concerning their operators, and I hope the dispatcher gets severe punishment.

I hope so, that is the only way they will ever listen or learn, hit them hard in the bank.
Hire people that don't overreact and are qualified for the position.
He has to be fired. There's no way to justify not firing him.
You never truly know who you are hiring, though. Someone one day can come off as the "perfect" employee and a week, month, year down the road they turn into a nightmare! They should just be tough and more disciplined on people in the work place.
Show they take no crap and if you give it you are going to be dealt with accordingly. In this guy's case, he might be a model dispatcher, but tough ****, you are done here and unemployed! No excuses, nothing! You did what you did and now you are being dealt with accordingly!

I wonder what kind of effect being a 911 operator would be on a person (especially the average person) though. Working all day for that long hearing call after call of horrific events, the occasional prank/useless call, and real huge emergency call. The job is definitely not for most people. Each time you have to answer the phone you know you are going to hear something horrible and have to respond calmly, accordingly and precisely to make it successful.
That operator has to be the worst ever.
He hears one swear word and immediately makes it his priority to scold her, and then barely tries to calm her down! He probably didn't even get the address. That guy needs to face the facts that some people do swear in times of panic. He even said one (if it counts). They need people that actualy have the correct priorities.
It's ironic, try to get help and save a life, and get arrested for trying to do it.

I'm sorry but most people don't think straight when they're calling 911. I've had to call 911 before and I was definitely frantic while trying to get an ambulance for my Grandmother. No matter what the situation with the caller is the 911 operator is supposed to be calmest person on the planet in order to evaluate the situation and send help accordingly. All he had to do was get her to tell him the problem which there obviously was for her to calling them in the first place. Her use of profanity is besides the point. At the very least he should be suspended as his behavior in a crisis was totally inappropriate.

Bit different set up in Australia where it falls to the public sector not the police to handle emergency calls, seems to work ok for the most part but as with all things not perfect.
This situation in particular has got to be the worst f**k up ever though, I'm willing to bet about 80% of emergency calls contain explicit language, the operators are meant to be trained in calming the caller down and then finding out what the emergency is so they can help.
This guy needs serious training in handling difficult situations.
