1 in 4 Americans unaware the earth orbits the sun

http://newsfeed.time.com/2014/02/16/1-in-4-americans-thinks-sun-orbits-earth/?hpt=hp_t3

When asked that question, 1 in 4 Americans surveyed answered incorrectly. Yes, 1 in 4. In other words, a quarter of Americans do not understand one of the most fundamental principles of basic science. So that’s where we are as a society right now.

But what's even more unbelievable...

Here’s the thing, though: Americans actually fared better than Europeans who took similar quizzes — at least when it came to the sun and Earth question. Only 66 percent of European Union residents answered that one correctly.

Are we really at this point? Are we this dumb?

:D

No fucking way! But this is in the Time magazine. I don't know how to question their credentials here. I can't believe this is actually affecting me as a turn-off.

I believe that actually came from Lewis Black (or maybe it's the other way around) ... something about watching Flintstones as if it was a documentary.

Yeah. Will decides to focus on the part of the article that makes Americans look better, not the part of the article that makes them look idiotic. Seems to be his way.

Western europe ? Eastern Europe ? Entire Europe ?

since the GOP reject science, would they be that one in four?

It would be interesting to see some perspective from this, coupled with other questions about evolution, global climate change, dinosaurs living with man, the trickle down theory and if Sarah Palin would be a great president. I think the similarities in answers would be rather telling.

Be honest...how many of you have actually spent an entire year taking daily readings with a telescope and compass and logged the findings in a journal to prove that the earth does in fact orbit the sun?

What's that? No one? Didn't think so.

So none of you really know.

It's a safe bet (as in 100% certainty) that these 1 in 4 americans are products of the public education system whose teacher unions are big supporters of the GOP.

Right?

And who gives a shit? Michael Lohan threatened his baby's momma with a knife. And wtf is an orbit?

You are actually the poster child for Libtard Devolution...got even a link where the GOP puts AntiScience in it's party platform?

You give"Low-Info" renewed meaning.

I know millions of Dems believe in the Bible as Gospel, accept the snake in the Garden as truth, and reject gay marriage and Gays...hmmm. Those are most likely the 1 in 4...Democratic products of affirmative action.
