The military–industrial complex (MIC) is an informal alliance between a nation's military and the arms industry which supplies it, seen together as a vested interest which influences public policy. A driving factor behind this relationship between the government and defense-minded corporations is that both sides benefit—one side from obtaining war weapons, and the other from being paid to supply them. The term is most often used in reference to the system behind the military of the United States, where it is most prevalent and gained popularity after its use in the farewell address of President Dwight D. Eisenhower on January 17, 1961. In 2011, the United States spent more (in absolute numbers) on its military than the next 13 nations combined.

Yep
Ike was right.
I like Ike.

But today its more like the Military/Banking/Intelligence/Security/Pharmacuetical/Communications/And every other war profiteer complex.

Its the reason we are all getting poorer.
The reason our quality of life is always going down.

Its the members of The Big Club just sucking the wealth from all us peasants.
Thats why they needed 9/11.
Thats why they needed to create a boogeyman to use as an excuse.

They spend more money just on military **** than they take in Federal Taxes.

Just think if the US went one year without federal tax.
Every business would boom.
Jobs would be plentiful.
Money would be plentiful.
Crime would go down.
******** would have better lives.
I could afford Red Meat.
So many good things.

But no. They keep the money among themselves.
Literally suck it away from the people.
A true Oligarchy if there ever was one.

I never could really understand it. How much money does one really need?
Everybody's gonna die. Life is short, why spend it accumulating money you never enjoy and at the same time make the world a shittier place?

I guess thats why they call them psychopaths, eletists, supremecists.

Ike was a good president. If he had not authorized one u2 mission, the one that got shot down with gary francis powers, we might have had détente or some kind of arms deal in the late 50s.
Ike and Kruschev were coming closer until kruschev caught him in his lie over the u2 flyovers.

Somebody positive rep the gnu guy.

I already did on another thread.

Eisenhower was the greatest post-1945 president. None of those who came after even compare to him.

and he got us involved in Vietnam. Thanks Ike

President Trump is the greatest post 1945 president even more so than Reagan. and we're unfortunately going to see.

The right man at the right moment.

It is not fair to blame a president for introduction of troops to a place in a small way. If he was still president in later years he might have decided to pull back from a war as the political situation changed. It would be interesting to know what he thought of Vietnam in later years when he was out of power.

Never thought I'd see a president that I liked as well as Ronaldus Magnus but I think I like Trump even more because he vanquished pure evil in the face of incredible odds.

And he is a master at trolling the media.

Hail!

Read an account that Ike had forbid all U2 flights leading up to the summit with Kruschev and the powers flight was sent up with the intent of derailing that summit.

Well, he's likely going to be either the greatest or the worst. Not really seeing any in between with this one.

At this point I'm betting on the latter, but maybe he'll pleasantly surprise me.

He obviously chose a real class act as his new communications director
Not the brightest bulb either it seems, as he was ranting about being the victim of a felony over the "leaking" of some financial disclosures that are actually part of the public record
I dunno, man. Like I say I sure hope he ends up surprising me, but so far this administration just seems to grow more and more surreal as time passes.

The "worst has been locked in by his predecessor for at least the next 10 administrations."

Iran will send us a friendly reminder in about 10 years.

Too early to even sniff that statement.
Who knows in the end maybe so but only time will tell.

This is like claiming, in early October that -insert NFL team name- is gonna win the Superbowl

Exactly mt thought when Bush Jr left office. Since November 8th, 2016 I'm not that sure anymore. It's too early to draw conclusions but Bush Jr now has a serious challenger...

There has never been a U.S. president named George Bush Jr. In fact, George Herbert Walker Bush never had a *** named George Herbert Walker Bush II

Kruschev visited the usa and Eisenhower was set to visit Russia. They built a golf course for the 2 to play on and it all went up in smoke after the u2 shootdown.
Just a few months later satellite photography took over what u2s were doing.

The U2 thing was nothing compared to the Bay of Pigs invasion or the Russian Missiles crisis, which both happened under Kennedy's watch.
I know liberals use to love Kennedy but I don't.
To make it simple, almost everything liberals like to credit Kennedy for is just the continuation of something Eisenhower had initiated (same goes for L. Johnson but no one ever pretended that Johnson was the best post-1945 president)

Eisenhower's legacy on infrastructures, healthcare, retirement or desegregation outshines by far the legacies of any of those who came after him.
Eisenhower is the one who set the foundations of what America was during the 60' and the 70'.

You're from France. You don't even know the difference between a leftist and a centrist.

Kennedy was the first president supply side proponent.

Of course had he lived, he would have evolved to be as left wing as his ******* Ted.

Yes, Eisenhower was a great president, but he was president during the 1950's. Before the counter culture and before major U.S. involvement in the. Vietnam war.
A much simpler time.

The president with the greatest legacy in the past 60 years is Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Trump has a chance to equal or surpass his greatness.

The u2 incident was when ike was president and I think 2 incidents you mention might not have happened if the usa / ussr relations were friendlier as a result of the visit to Russia scrubbed due to u2 incident. Even kennedy had a back channel peace thingy going with kruschev.

Eisenhower still had to deal with a hot and cold running kruschev. I saw a video/movie where he warned kennedy about kruschev running hot and cold on usa relations.
Perhaps I will find the video and state the title later on. It as made around 2013. Eisenhower still had to worry about nuclear war.
