Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, often shortened to Macy's Day Parade, is an annual parade presented by the U.S. chain store business Macy's. The tradition started in 1924, tying it for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States along with America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit, with both parades four years younger than the 6abc Dunkin' Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia. The three-hour event is held in New York City starting at 9:00 a.m. EST on Thanksgiving Day. Link

McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade
The McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade, "Chicago's Grand Holiday Tradition," is an annual parade produced and presented by the Chicago Festival Association (CFA). It is held on State Street in Downtown Chicago, Illinois, every Thanksgiving morning from 8 am until 11 am CST. The parade is telecast live on WGN 9 Chicago (in the Chicago media market) and on WGN America (in the rest of the nation).

America's Thanksgiving Parade
America's Thanksgiving Parade, is an annual American parade held on Thanksgiving Day in downtown Detroit, Michigan. The tradition started in the city in 1924 by the J.L. Hudson Company department store. It shares the title for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, New York and is four years younger than the 6abc Dunkin' Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Use two G36C's set on full auto (one in each hand) and stand ontop of a building they pass by. And fire down into the crowd of Parade activists below (those dressed up like dildos being towed on trailers) while laughing like a mad scientist on crack!. Too extreme for some? then just run out in front of them and give them the middle finger then run off again.

2012 Macys Parade live stream, new balloons, singers and fun facts

It’s time again for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! The list of the 2012 entertainment has just been announced along with some of the new balloons.

Watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a tradition enjoyed by families from coast to coast. Everyone looks forward to all the amazing giant balloons and waiting to see Santa bringing up the end. A live stream to watch the parade online is provided by NBC and offers eight viewing locations.

Entertainment for the parade will be provided by 2012 AMA awards winner Carly Rae Jepsen, Neon Trees, Karmin, Flo Rida and Colbie Caillat.

This years new balloons will include a new updated Hello Kitty, Kermit the Frog, Spongebob Squarepants, Julius, Spider-Man, Kung Fu Panda, Ronald McDonald, the Pillsbury Doughboy, Pikachu, Buzz Lightyear, Sailor Mickey Mouse, Sonic the Hedgehog and Diary of a Wimpy ***.

With this being the 86th annual parade, it seems an appropriate time to look back to the beginning:

There weren’t any balloons in the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade but instead they borrowed ******* from the ***.

The first Macy’s parade balloon was Felix the Cat and was designed by theater set designer Tony Sarg.

The early balloons were released at the end of the parade and whoever found them was rewarded with a prize from Macys. This procedure was discontinued after a pilot nearly crashed while trying to recover one of the balloons.

Each of the enormous Thanksgiving Day, parade balloons weigh hundreds of pounds. It takes more than 1,000 volunteers to help set up and handle the balloons for the procession, which is done the night before.

Once filled with helium, each balloon requires multiple handlers (some over 50) to help them make it through the parade route. The only requirements to be a balloon handler are that they are at least 18 years old and weigh 125 pounds or more.

Personal thoughts on the whole parade thing.... I've got enough to worry about in my life without the need for time wasting events that serve no purpose other than to waste your time and cash if you spend any while at these events (punks selling lemonade or whatever). My time and money is better spent elsewhere. Somewhere that serves more purpose than standing on a street corner clapping and waving at a bunch of goons on trailers dressed like chumps. It is how it is, my friend. I have zero time for such antics. If anyone supports these sorts of things, go ahead, I've no problem with anyone liking these sorts of things. Just don't expect me to join in though. And dont get me started on that begging for sweets campaign at the end of each year either.
