I'm not hostile towards you. I respect your opinions, even though I don't agree with them. It seems like you're being hostile towards what I believe, but then again I'm not getting all upset about it. However, both of us better be careful or the thought police might come and question us.
My point in disagreeing with you is simply that a gaggle of nation-states would not be a solution to the problems we have now, and if anything, would add to our issues. And yes, I do see it as naive to believe that a multiple nation-state scenario would be as effective as what we have now... because history says otherwise. What was one of the primary reasons that Rome dominated the ancient world? Because Rome was
unified and bigger than its opposition for centuries. Had it broken down into city-states, all that Hannibal and others would have needed to do is knock them off one by one. Philip and Alexander defeated the Greek city-states, unified them (somewhat) under Macedonian rule and then went on to conquer the ancient world. Once Alexander died, that structure broke down and then Greece was defeated by the unified Roman state. And it was the breakdown in Rome's central government that had a LOT to do with the fall of the Western Roman Empire. It wasn't as simple as what pop culture suggests: that some German dude rode in with his posse and kicked Roman ass.
So what you're suggesting, having 48 nation-states, is to me just an invitation to a Lord of the Flies scenario. You still haven't given any explanation of how you feel this is a solution. You still haven't given any explanation of how you feel that a nation-state legislature would be any better than a national legislature. Again, have you ever attended a state legislature session, a city or town council meeting? Are you aware that the Minnesota state government is basically shut down right now because of infighting??? So yeah, I think your "solution" is wishful thinking and not based on reality.
Take it as "hostile", if you so choose. But Jefferson Davis and his cohorts threatened the Republic. And for that, I would have seen them hanged by the neck until dead... as I would anyone else who threatened the Republic.
As for "thought police"... if someone doesn't like what I say or how I say it, they are welcome to talk to me anytime. But whether it's some message board mod or a real cop, if I'm in the right, they better be prepared for me to do my share of talking too.
