Police officer ****** in furious firefight in Ohio trailer park

One of your own has been shot, the suspect is armed, I see no problem with wiping out the trailer.
What if there are ******** inside?
In fairness I haven't properly read the thread, but just a point.

On an unrelated note: This trailer park looks like the third world to me.

EDIT
Ok, now I've read the thread I've no idea why the gunman opened fire, and I think the police should've used infra-red imaging to see the boys body heat through the trailer walls, then used an old M14 to shoot thru & take him out with one bullet.
Damned edit time limit expired :(

This is the Ohio police department we're talking about here not Delta *****, I simply doubt they have such resources although that would've been the correct course of action to take.

I assumed the cops knew there was only the gunman and no **** within the wobbly box.

If they can afford automatic rifles they can afford infrared. You can buy Flir IR systems for under 14k and even the PDs in Podunk Florida where I live have them. I think they just had orders to take him out regardless especially being a female officer was downed. I'm surprised they didn't burn the trailer down

Most police ****** these days have IR.
Many commercial video cameras sold for home use have IR.
What I would've mentioned at the time if I was as smart as I wished I was is that they could've shot out the window of the trailer with 1 bullet and thrown teargas/******** gas/ a flashbang/ a smoke grenade in and taken out the target non-lethally that way.
Sadly for me I'm a tosser who didn't think of that 'till later.

^^Yip yep yup.

Criminals hole up anywhere...not just Ohio. Here in Michigan they pop up everywhere. And tragic killings like this are unfortunately commonplace.

Granted, but when reading about the killings that take place in Ohio over the last couple of years, they seem to be very cold blooded killings, almost ******* just for the purpose of *******. :2 cents:

In this case, I think the cops chose the best option(s) they had available to them in a deadly situation. With multiple officers down and civilians being shot at, they took out a mad man who had no regard for his own life, or anyone else's.

As for all this talk about infrared technology, I'm far from being very knowledgeable on what's available these days. But my understanding is that infrared works best on targets that are out in the open (the less they move around, the better), not blocked by walls or other objects. And from what little I've read, glass, metal, plastics and even cloth will block infrared imaging. As long as the target does not maintain a static position for a long period of time, thereby establishing a heat signature, you wouldn't be able to "see" him. And this guy was in an aluminum/tin skinned trailer, with studded interior walls topped by some sort of drywall, I assume.

But like I said, I don't know exactly what is out there these days. So if someone knows of an optical technology, that is available to police, that would allow a sniper to "see" through walls in real time, and distinguish a good target from a bad target, please describe it or provide a link. That would be really interesting stuff that many of us would like to read about.

Big city departments have some fancy tools at their disposal. How a more laid back countryside place will have what they need. If anything they will call the big city to team up and provide assistance if it should come to some kind of Rambo scenario.

Dayton, Springfield, Cincinnati, and Toledo will have more at their disposal than say a little town with population of four hundred.

This is one of the biggest news stories due to it isn't every day something like this happens. They had to shoot him because he obviously wasn't going anywhere or giving up. Just have to wait for an opening and hit.

Though I don't know why they couldn't have shot tear gas inside the trailer and taze him down when he gets out.

I suspect the officers may have reacted to the sight of their dead colleague by making sure he didn't get out of there alive by firing as many rounds at the trailer as possible although his actions may have been so dangerous for others that they had no time to wait for tear gas in any case if they didn't have any on them. He may well have shot himself or most likely would have anyway, he was clearly not thinking straight.

It is hard to say how it could have played out with different scenarios. The guy is dead. Good riddance.

Wow! What a tragic story! Condolences to the dead officer. Well wishes to the wounded officer.

As for shooting into the gunman's trailer... he'd already fired a blast into his neighbor's trailer, ****** one cop in cold *****, shot down another and continued to fire shots at anyone and everyone. Other than the story saying that he had a shotgun, who knows if it was a single shot, pump or semi-auto? But even if it was a single barrel, a shotgun inside 20 yards > a rifle or a ******, especially if you're out in the open. They lit his ass up and ****** him - thereby saving the taxpayers the expense of treating his wounds, prosecuting him, defending him and then jailing him. Except for the dead and wounded cops, IMO, this story had a very "happy ending".

 to the cops on this one.

Sheesh, sometimes when reading your posts I can' tell if you're a left-wing fruit or a right-wing extremist.

IR does not work like solid snakes in the real world :)

they can easily detect this guy even if he was ******** motionless in his trailer for hours. I've seen it used in person before in a standoff. Also they more frequently use it for spotting growhouses due to the heat sig of sodium growlights etc. hope that helps
