I was in this contest last year and sent out the email mailers to my past and present website members and posted on twitter all of the time etc. It may or may not have helped get me few votes but in the end i didn't really even have a shot at the top spot or a win and it ended up having a bad effect in other ways. People can unsubscribe from my website mailing list just like any other mailing list. Many of them did after that and I put myself in their position. If I was a member of a site and started getting hit up everyday or every few days to vote in some contest it would feel like I was being spammed and it would probable be a lil' annoying. My website members are very important to me and I want people to feel like they enjoy themselves there. If they are a previous member that maybe isn't a member anymore then I certainly don't want them to regret their decision to have joined in the first place due to some annoying emails they are now getting. It's kind of the same with twitter. I may post something again on twitter at some point but not regularly and for sure not daily. My twitter page is for the people that I choose to let follow me actually get to know me and have fun. I mean of course I mention my site on there once in a while but again...not regularly. If I am already doing that and then I start posting to vote for me in a contest all of the time I will feel like I am spamming them as well. It's just a personal choice. I technically have done it, it's just been EXTREMELY rarely...as in twice so far since the beginning of the contest on twitter and not once anywhere else. That's all I'm saying. The weird thing is I seem to be doing better this year so far than I did last year. Makes no sense. hahaha

no, i know thats not what you were saying. but thats what im saying, in a half-serious manner. not spamming people is always a good thing. and might be doing better this year because, one, we saw how treated us last year, and, two, the members votes are weighted, so that we have more of a say than those loser twitter followers and we know how awesome you are

It's terrible....*sigh* You never used to be like this. I think it's all that time you spend with jitna. Every time I try to have a decent conversation with you, we always have to cut it short because you're waltzing off with jitna to one of those stamp collecting seminars. :facepalm:

Last year Miss Hybrid gained over 200 places in the rankings WITHOUT having a Twitter or Facebook account (she had Vicky Vette help her set up a Twitter account in the late going). Her campaign strategy was brilliantly conceived and executed. She related to members here on a very personal level. Instead of making excuses for her shortcomings she made fun of them and her self-effacing humor paid huge dividends. Keeping the contest fun for people was more important to her than getting votes and the members really responded to that in a positive way....how could you not?

Miss Hybrid actually finished 37th in end (I think), having managed to get through the first round. She did spend a lot of the second round in 50th (hence her self effacing Miss Lth). She made one L of an impression on me at the time, and I think, a lot of others. She continued to post here on FreeOnes during the last phase of the competition (even though she had been eliminated by then), and has continued to post as part of the FreeOnes community ever since.
