Marvin Gaye sings the american national anthem at 1983 NBA All Star Game.

being that i'm not American this might seem like a strange
choice but i think he and the performance were simply outstanding. :2 cents: :hatsoff:

some of you guys weren't even born yet. check it out!!

ed007 my man....and this maybe a post for another thread but sorry, in terms of the national anthem of the US....this version is unmatched.. A tear wells up in my eye every time I hear this....

well, i guess the best thing to do is have a poll
and let the good folk of the FreeOnes board decide. ;)

obviously i think marvin gaye's is better. i believe
he would have eaten Whitney for breakfast on stage
and ravaged her veg patch for dinner. :D

or if you can find one that you think is better than
these two please post it. now it's over to you. :hatsoff:

Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock

[/thread]

what can i say? i've always believed in giving credit when it's due. thank, GregCentauro. :hatsoff: you could well be right. ;)

but it would also be great if you could make a
choice between Marvin and Whitney. :glugglug:

Three great versions of the anthem. :2 cents: Here's my vote:
1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Marvin Gaye
3. Whitney Houston

What were you thinking making this poll?

i was thinking it would be interesting to find out
what other people think. you might have noticed
we humans have different opinions on almost
everything. so we use polls to find out what
people think. :2 cents:

The national anthem whitney houstons style is an abomination.
All that moaning, who likes that style of singing?
Give me Diana ross, dionne warwick or roberta flack anyday.
Now those were voices.
"and IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIi, Will always love youuuuuuuuuuuuuu, uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, will always love .......YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.".
Guess what, that aint singin, thats moaning.

Anyway, the traditional tenor voice is the correct and best way to sing it.
All these show offs singing it with there own stupid style trying to show off how many unecessary octives they can hit is fucking stupid.
sing the damn song right.

It always pisses me off when singers try to change the National Anthem. It's the fucking National Anthem, not a fucking pop song that they can rewrite and **** all over as they please!

Amen to that! Just sing the song the way it was written. Its the anthem for an entire country and all the people of that country. It shouldn't be viewed as a chance to impart one's personal style. The song belongs to the people of the United States, and all those who are lucky enough to sing it at a public event should realize that they are borrowing it, and it is the last song that they should try to "make their own" by freestyling notes etc.

I like the way the old man used to do it decades ago late at night when television stations still went off the air for the night.
