19 YEAR OLD, ******, ********* AND *********** BY HOMOPHOBE,
Not in the Middle East, but in "gay friendly" Puerto Rico...
Religious leaders, #1 promoters of homophobic sentiments, very silent about this outrageous crime.
Homophobe plans to use the "gay panic" defense.
Police agent suggest he was to blame for his death for his lifestyle.

What a shame!! Homophobia is a cancer in our society.

First of all...
More people die at the hands of tolerant people than they do at the hands of homophobes.
I grew up in the city that has the second highest number of gay people per capita in the United States (second to San Francisco) and I have honestly never seen much **** crime take place due to homophobia. Sure, gay people get beat up, but not because they're gay. It's just an unfortunate circumstance, which leads me to my...
Second of all...
Why is it that when a victim is gay, black, foreign or practices a "different" religion (etc), than it's automatically labeled as a "**** crime"...??? Gay people get beat up and ******** all the time, but it's not because they're gay. Sure, it happens, and it's ignorant to claim that **** crimes don't take place, but it's ridiculous that as soon as a gay *** gets ********, it's immediately labeled as a **** crime. Why? Because he's gay? So what? Maybe his sexuality has nothing to do with the ******. In fact, it's not even clear as to why the ****** took place to begin with.
Authorities are looking into whether Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, 19, was targeted because he was gay, and the case has sent shockwaves across Puerto Rico’s LGBT community.
They're looking into it, because they don't know yet. But, even though the motive hasn't been discovered, almost every single person in the world has already made up their mind - he got ******** because he was gay and the suspect is a homophobe. Even though (at this point) there is no proof to that allegation, everybody has already made up their mind. But, why is this automatically a **** crime, just because the victim was gay? It's completely unfair to assume that his sexuality and the intolerance of somebody else was THE reason that he was ********. The term "**** crime" is used sooooo loosely now-a-days and it's getting completely out of hand.
When I was in high school, one of my friends got into a fight with a gay ***. The gay ***, who just so happened to be black (I say that for a reason), was the one who started the fight and he was even the one who ended it (he beat up my friend). The gay black *** beat up my friend for reasons that had nothing to do with the color of his skin or his sexuality. My friend, who was attacked, defended himself and fought back for reasons that had nothing to do with the color of his skin or his sexuality. Now, ask me what the point of view was about this fight...
1) My friend fought a gay ***, so he's a homophobe
2) My friend fought a black ***, so he's racist
My friend was investigated for committing a **** CRIME, even though he was defending himself. Even though the gay black *** started it all, my friend was labeled as committing a **** crime, for no other reason than that the *** he fought was black and gay. The gay black ***, who started AND won the fight, was viewed as being a VICTIM. Do you see how fucked up that is? This is exactly what happens when people act like big pussy crybabies and start bringing sexuality, race, religion (etc) into the mix, even when they probably don't have aaaaanything to do with what happens.
I **** to say this phrase, because it sounds terrible, but maybe this *** brought this upon himself. At this point, nobody really knows what happened. All we know is that a gay *** is dead, so everybody just automatically assumes that his sexuality was why he was ********. Even though there are a million other reasons as to why he could've been ********, everybody has already made up their mind and labeled this as a **** crime. Could it be a **** crime? Absolutely. But, nobody knows anything yet, so we should stop assuming that we know what happened.
FYI - If the situation was reversed and a gay *** ******** a straight ***, would you still be so pissed off? Would you still be all vocal about how we all need to be tolerant of one another? Would you even care? Would you still consider it a **** crime? Or, would it be "just another ******", because the victim didn't fit some sort of minority category?
Food for thought.
