Your God Given Rights!

Think again. Somalia kicked America out of its country.

No one can pay a mercenary or solider enough to fight a war that is not theirs.

Go to youtube and watch some videos about Militias, they have the determination and a lot of firepower. Including, Flame throwers, and automatic weapons, tanks and so on.

If you seriously think Somalia and my example are remotely comparable then there is no point in 'chatting' about this further. We'll just go around in circles...no offense.

You were talking about B-2 bombers.

Just as I said before. An army that has their own cause that they are willing to die for, is much more dangerous than any paid solider will ever be.

American army or Russian army, whoever, it doesn't matter.

Fair enough. :)

I'll say it again...how is your rifle/handgun gonna protect you from a B-2 bomber dropping a JDAM on you from 30,000 feet?
If the government wants you dead...your dead.

Aha....not if I have a SAM site installed on my rooftop! Besides, I might even go ahead and get my own lil ol B-2 just for me! I mean....arms are arms, right? It's my right.

Truth is if we ever had an armed conflict between the population and the military here in the US and the soldiers obeyed the orders the population would not have a chance.Whether the soldiers would actually be willing to do that is a good question. If they instead decided to side with the population then there would be no need for the weapons the population has in their possesion. But if they didn't again the population with their handguns and rifles and shotguns would not stand a chance.
I really think it's kind of a ridiculous arguement anyway.Long before we ever got to a point that the population thought armed insurrection was a reasonable idea things would have gotten so bad that the US would have probably started a nuclear conflict and we would all be dead.Just look at the way things are going now, we are going to try to borrow (and print money) our way out of current and pending financial problems. What happens when other countries try to say no more loans US you are not a good risk and can't possibly pay it back. Our response will be FU! We are America and we will eithier get what we need or destroy your asses!

good posts guys, I'm really glad that people put some thought into this.

I know that my post was (intentionally) absurdist, but I was serious about discussing where and/or how our values arise and what impact they make on how people think and act today.

all the porn? You're going to have to give us some life-extension then, and probably a couple of new wangs too.

I haven't put meaningfull posts in this thread yet. I'm never sure if a foreigner look in internal American affairs is welcome, even if it's done with respect. Yet, all the interresting debates are almost always internal American affairs on the board.

There is something that haven't been mentionned yet that, i'm sure, could be said by an American: there is something disturbing when Americans are quoting Amendments the same way Chrisitans are quoting the Bible.

:2 cents:

I'm sure to some it isn't, but that also is not limited simply to foreigners. Personally I think it helps to put things into perspective to view them from different angles.

First thing you gotta do is define..."God"

Not directed at you really Legz but I would like to make a comment on something a lot of people cite. When the founders said that people had rights "endowed by their creator" and some use that as some sort of evidence of them beleiving in god or religion as being the source of these rights they miss the real meaning of what the founders were trying to say IMO.Their point was that these rights were inherent in all men and not subject to the whims of governments or other men.And as I remember it those endowed rights mentioned were Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.Thats pretty basic and really should have nothing to do with a belief in god or not.
