Returning Bad Gifts...

Earlier tonight, I made a post in the "Annoyances" thread, in which I ranted about parents and their bad gift giving habits.

My *** recently sent me my birthday present and I have a dilemma. She sent me a Nintendo Wii, an extra controller and 2 games. In total, the receipt says that she spent $434 and some change. She sent me the gift receipt because she bought some warranty and I needed to have it...I don't know. :dunno:

Anyway, for weeks and weeks and weeks, my *** has been all excited because she thought her gift was going to make me think that I had, and I quote, "the coolest *** in the world". This is where I feel terrible and I wanted to get some input on my situation.

I don't want a Nintendo Wii, I never asked for a Nintendo Wii and I even stated to my ***, on many instances, that I don't like the Nintendo Wii. When she asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I said I wanted a Playstation 3 and I even stated that I did not want a Nintendo Wii...yet, she bought me one anyway. So, here is my problem...

I don't want this Nintendo Wii. I will never use this Nintendo Wii. It will literally just sit here in my apartment, all boxed up, collecting dust. Since this is the case, my *** basically just spent $434 on absolutely nothing and I feel bad that she just ****** this money. She might as well have sent me $434 in cash and let me burn it, because the outcome would be the same.

So, is it wrong for me to tell my *** to return my present and get her money back, as it is an honest waste of a lot of money? Or, do I just shut my mouth, act like it's the greatest gift in the world and let it collect dust?

(FYI - I am not unappreciative or unthankful. I think that having a *** who is cool enough to buy something like a Nintendo Wii for her soon-to-be 27 year old soon is awesome. It's just also a huge waste of money.)

Why so anti-wii? Give it a go, is it really that different from a PS3? Most games are available on both platforms aren't they?

The Wii is like an iPod. It's a socially-acceptable form of technology among the tards. But.. in one of those ultra-disapointed, feel-guilty-cuz-you-insulted-yer-*** type ways.

Like this one time I took these old miniature golden potatos.. and I wedged them in my crack and ran up to her while she was on the crapper playing solitaire.. assumed the shitting position and proceeded to let them drop on the ground with a satisfying thud noise on the floor.

She didnt have her glasses on and assumed I actually did that. The look on her face was priceless... for like 3 seconds. Then I felt guilty. She thought I had completely lost it and shat on the carpet. I felt bad.. and told her the joke. She chuckled but the disapointment on her face ruined the joke and she was visibly shaken by my fake turding demonstration. I reassured her.. then walked to the bedroom and tried to forget that look on her face.

Oh.. and for context.. yes, we've always been one of those ultra-liberal families who joke around, take little offense and generally try to annoy each other in a fun way. Unorthodox, perhaps..

Chill out if you're reading anything into this cuz it happened a long, long while ago.

That might upset her but at least she will know that you just want something from her heart and not her wallet.

My *** is one of those moms who feels the need to "spoil" their *****, but she does it by wasting her money and not taking "no" for an answer, even though she is clearly wasting her money. Let's put it this way...

Last summer, when my parents visited my apartment, my *** thought it was really, really hot (which it was). I have a studio apartment on the 3rd floor of an all concrete/brick building and a very old air conditioner, which equals fairly warm temperatures in my apartment at times. When it is just me in my apartment, my air conditioner makes the temperature barely tolerable. Now, when there were 3 people in my apartment, it was kind of warm, to say the least.

My *** took me shopping for groceries (fuck YEAH) and then took me to some department store to buy a curtain rod (don't ask). So, she kept bugging me about getting a new air conditioner. Long story short...my *** wanted to buy me a $600 air conditioner, which I didn't want or need, and she CRIED because I kept telling her "no". She CRIED dude...CRIED. That's how not cool it's going to be to say "I don't like my Nintendo Wii mommy".

Oh yeah, about the Wii thingy. Maybe you can raffle it off? On here? I dunno... Use it? Lol theres actually a couple cool games on it that I've played. One of them is this Red Steel game where you can use a ***** and guns and its really involving. Oh and fist fighting too. It's got a decent story line.... Give it a shot, you might be surprised at what games there are and how fun they can be. I was skepticle too.

How about this: if you know she's coming over make the PS3 disappear. You weren't gonna be playing it while she was there anyways, were you? Also, you could call her and tell her that all your friends pitched in and got you the PS3 as a group gift.

*sigh* Chef, you must be a lot more patient than I am, because I would be pissed. Alright, it's cool that she bought you a Wii, but WTF? You stated it clearly, and you still got what you didn't want.

Look man, I'm not saying you should scream at her and say, "You suck!" or anything like that, but $434 is a lot of money to be ******. Sit her down and explain it. Spin it so she sees that you feel bad about the mistake. Like maybe, "I guess I meant to tell you that I didn't want a Wii, but I forgot," or something like that. I don't know.

I do know the Wii sucks ass, and the PS3 is light years better. MLB The Show is a must have, and I'm sorry, you just can't play that **** on the Wii. Life is too short man. Don't fuckin' settle. Sometimes you have to take a chance, even if it means someone might wind up feeling a little hurt.

Why don't you just tell her that although you appreciate the gift, you would prefer to exchange it for a PS3. Just feed her some BS about certain games that you want only being available for the PS3 and not Wii, so you'd rather have the PS3 so you can have those extra games that you wouldln't otherwise get to play. I'm sure she'll be totally cool with that.

I don't like to take gifts, but if somebody absolutely insists that they give me one I always tell them to just give me money because of things like this. You can never go wrong with that gift.

I'd take the Pii back and get a refund myself.Then give the money back to my ****** via birthdays and xmas's

If she asks where the Pii is,then say it got damaged through playing a kick boxing game - she'll understand

But if you really wanted a PS3 wouldn't you have got it already
