Inventor of Ramen noodles dies at 96

TOKYO -- Momofuku Ando, the Japanese inventor of instant noodles - a dish that has sustained American college students for decades - has died. He was 96.

Nissin Food Products Co., the company Ando founded, said on its Web site that he died Friday after suffering a heart attack.

Born in Taiwan, Ando founded his company in 1948 from a humble family operation. Faced with food shortages in post-World War II Japan, Ando thought a quality, convenient noodle product would help feed the masses.

In 1958, his "Chicken Ramen" - the first instant noodle - was introduced after many trials. Following its success, the company added other products, such as the "Cup Noodle" in 1971.

"The Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum" opened in 1999 in Ikeda City in western Japan commemorating his inventions.

Ando gave a speech at the company's New Year ceremony and enjoyed Chicken Ramen for lunch with Nissin employees on Thursday before falling ill, Japan's largest daily Yomiuri reported.

He is survived by his wife, Masako.

He’s now gone but the ramen lives on, boy does it ever!

But..

They should mummify him and bury him in a styrofoam cup, with instructions for future generations to fill with hot water to the inside line.

Maybe it's just me but all the damn flavors taste the same: beef, chicken, vegetable, shrimp, etc... Has anybody else noticed that or is it just me? I don't even use the flavor packet half the time.

Hehe, I use two squares of noodles at a time and mix the two flavors, not a lot of water, just enough to keep the noodles moist.
I use a fork to eat 'em.

While I like all the members here for the most part, I must say that comments, while intended to be funny, come across as disrespectful.
If we knew the person personally, then maybe - maybe, we can make a little fun of them, but a human being has passed away, he is no longer living.
Although he lived long, his family is feeling the pain of his loss - some of us know what that is, some have yet to experience it.
I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from posting what they want - go ahead. I'm just stating that this was a person, and his family will miss him.
I hope when we all pass on, people will think a little more highly of us.

I put water in a container and microwave it on high for 2 minutes. Break up the noodles and dump them in the container of nuked water, cover with aluminum foil wait 5 minutes, drain and viola! Mix in the packet (LOVE the shrimp one) add some easy cheese, maybe some other random spices. No soupy mess and very very very very very very tasty! Quite satisfying too! Everyone should try it. A friend who spent some time in the pen told me about it. Been cookin em like that ever since!

Once I cooked up 2 packets of noodles then added the powdered cheese from a box of Mac and Cheese along with the beef flavoring!

Oh My God! Loved it!!
