WTF? The Pac-10 has a collegiate hockey league

Some of the scores listed are horrific. 15-2, 11-1, 13-2, 12-0, 15-0. Really? What kind of hockey "teams" do they have out that way? :rofl: If some of these teams would've played the national champion UMD Bulldogs they would have been beaten 30-1, I suspect.

You'd think since the WHL teams sprinkled through the northwest aren't that bad. They produced some NHL legends (like my all time favorite Capitals goalie, Olaf Kolzig).

Speaking about the Pac-10 and the PNW and that whole region...does anyone know (without Google) who the 1st U.S. based team was to win the Stanley Cup?

My uncle lives in Seattle (home of UW...he was a prof. there even), and when I was first getting into hockey, he told me that & I thought he was full of it. I looked it up (when you had to actually go to a book to do so), and found out he was right. They were not an NHL team, and I believe they were only an amateur team...but it was in the early days of awarding the Cup...before the NHL, and it eventually becoming the trophy awarded to their champion.

That area just has no real history of hockey. Of course that's changing with all the Cali' NHL squads and whatnot. But I believe the website said that league was formed in '95. I played with a few kids growing up that went both DI and DIII and they absolutely would've dominated if that league is what I suspect it is. Hell I would probably be an all star in that league. Although, I was never "bad" or even to be sure "mediocre," I was always one of the best skaters and was the first of my age group growing up to take a decent slapper.

If you want to get technical, it's not really desert since it's a hundred miles or so outside of what's considered the great basin desert (grew up in the tri-cities and that is part of the great basin).

But it still has sage brush so that's close enough for me. ;-)

So I guess Florida's 2 national championships a few years ago means nothing. The SEC West, now that's complete garbage.
