WTF? Russia is referring to Ukranians as Nazis?

"Many Russians joined the military because they needed money and were informed of their deployment at the last minute. They were told they’d be welcomed as heroes for liberating Ukraine from its Nazi oppressors and their Western backers, and that Kyiv would fall without bloodshed within a week."

"As things get worse for Ivan in Ukraine, his mother’s patriotism deepens and her rage grows. The family has relatives in Kyiv, but seems to believe this is a righteous war against Nazi oppression in Ukraine — and the dark hand of the United States they see behind Kyiv’s tough resistance."

Of course, the Ukrainians aren't Nazis. The Russians need them to BE Nazis for their people.

It happens.

The average American might think (term used loosely) a border crosser is a criminal who is here to steal jobs. (Plural)

Rwanda had manifesto writers, radio stations, endless propaganda and free machetes to exterminate the.. tutsis? (Been a while since 1994)

Comparisons to the most vile thing you can think of is required.

Russia is like taxes. They come every year to take what is yours. Kill them, my brothers!

Depends what you consider a Nazi. Some people define a Nazi as someone who has a different opinion than they do. Bit of a stretch perhaps but oppression and genocide can be subjective in operation.

It's only a very small portion of the Ukrainians, but there still was a lot made of the Azov Regiment

I think it is also due that in the past during WWII , the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician) was mostly formed of Ukrainian recruits and this waffen SS division was involved in war crimes with one of its commanders Michael Karkoc, who was alleged to be a former "deputy company commander" in the division, was implicated in war crimes committed before he joined the division in 1945. According to Associated Press, before joining the Division, Karkoc had served as a "lieutenant" of the 2nd Company of the German SS Police-led Ukrainian Self Defense Legion (USDL). The USDL was a paramilitary police organization in the Schutzmannschaft. Karkoc was found living in Lauderdale , Minnesota. He had arrived in the United States in 1949 and became a naturalized citizen in 1959, he died in 2019 at the age of 100 while never facing a trial for his crimes. The massacre of Huta Pienicka is attributed to this SS division.
