From what I've seen it's essentially the same as starting out in other industries. You get in contact with the various industries that are out there either by phone, email or in person and since it's a primarily look/performance-based industry they may ask you to come down anyway or send in a portfolio. This is just what I;ve picked up going through the internet over the years.
