Windows XP - How to continue living the XPerience !!!

Windows XP was such a success that it is still running in 2014, 13 years after its release.

After it, Microsoft got even greedier that they released the awful Vista and the solid 7 but with tons of editions: Home basic, home premium (What the fuck?), only missing were the kitchen editions and the bathroom with 3 flavors one to use while pissing, other while taking a crap and a third one while masturbating or having sex.

And they paid the price so they toned down with Windows 8 and I guess they should only release one version like Linux does and spare us money on useless versions in order to get a minor functionality.

What used to work in Bill Gates days won't work anymore, the new generation don't give shit about the minor differences and if Microsoft won't do a major rethinking, and go back to releasing 1 version like Windows 95 or 98 but unfortunately they are controlling the market because of the games as there isn't much for linux and Office that doesn't have a really serious competitor.

Windows XP --- the Chuck Norris of Windows versions. That is what I am on right now. Solid as a bar of Gold.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
I still run XP (isolated from the internet) on the other side of my iMac. There are certain legacy programs and files that I still need access to and I think XP was the best of the various Windows OS versions. It had more features than and was at least as stable as NT (which was pretty much the first version of Windows that didn't crash all the time). Maybe because I've used it for so long, but I find XP to be easier to use and more enjoyable than any computer OS I've ever used (including Mac OSX). 7 is OK. But I'll go on a date (in public... in a city where people would recognize me) with Joan Rivers before I'll ever allow anything as horrid as Windows 8 into my home or office. That abomination is like the worst of 95, Me and Vista all rolled into one. And that's probably why many of the OEMs (Dell and HP anyway) demanded that Microsoft allow them to continue selling Windows 7 on new computers if customers wanted it - and many do (especially businesses).

I've got two netbooks at the moment - don't ask - the first of which I bought specifically refurbished so that it'd have XP on it, and I still use it for all my school/work-related stuff - i.e., anything I need SPICE or Visual Studio/etc for. The second netbook came much more recently as a gift (the I-don't-ever-use-it-becauseo-it's-a-netbook-and-I-have-a-real-computer type of gift) which I think also had XP on it, but I promptly broke the Windows installation and rather than use one of the new versions of Windows (I have access to them through school), I put Linux on it.

I'd rather try a whole new OS than move to 8. And actually it turned out to be a really, really good move. Ubuntu is fabulous.

50 Open Source Replacements-ish for Windows XP

The problem is that there are hundreds of different versions of Linux, so it's very hard for most people to know which one is best for their needs.

The only one I've tried is Ubuntu, but it still uses the Terminal (similar to DOS screen in Windows) for some stuff, which makes it difficult for most people to use it.

A few years ago I really got into Ubuntu, but after a few months I gave up because some of the programs I wanted to use were only available in Windows.

 I sense you bear some antipathy towards Windows 8. :rofl2:

I've only had an extremely few encounters with Windows 8 over at my sister's house. And I didn't care for Windows 8 either.
However, I don't believe I'd go as far as to do the Joan Rivers thing.
I wouldn't voluntarily want a Windows 8 computer at my place. But, if someone GAVE me one like my sister gave me this Windows XP computer, I'd take it.

Exactly! That's why I was a little bit confused when earlier in this thread, Captaingault alluded to that Microsoft should release only one version like Linux. I thought, "Aren't there like a billion and one Linux distros?"

You're absolutely right, but I was referring to the versions of a distribution. For instance Debian or Kali have only one distribution.

What really pissed me of with Windows like Vista (Starter, Home Basic, Home premium, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate) why?

And judging from the toned down versions of 8 is that they learned the lesson because if it works they would have done the same.
