wii experts needed (troubleshooting)

i have two wii remotes

i have one remote that i use as the main remote

i have my second remote that is used when there is another person playing wii

i am charging my wii remotes on my new wii remote charger

i was able to get the main wii remote to start charging because it automatically knows to set itself as the 1st player

but, when i pressed the A button on my second remote all four lights blink on and off and it never recognizes that it should be the second player

so i put batteries back in the remote, turned on my wii and tried to set the second remote as the first player remote, but the second remote wont even turn on

the only way that i can get my second wii remote to turn on is if i use the first remote to go to the wii remote connection settings

but, my first wii remote is charging so i cant do that

is there any way that i can set my second wii remote so that it will turn on as number two, because then i will be able to charge it if it turns on
