Indeed, that's a good question : Why would I, a French man, not even living in the US, care about the upcoming American elections ?
I live in France, we recently elected our new President, François Hollande, our new Assemblée Nationale (which is, approximately, the equivalent o the US Senate), we got a new government, a lot of problems to be dealed with, I should probably mind my own country instead of messing with some other countries's business...
Why would I care about what's happening in the US ?
1) Wether I like it or not, wether you like it or not, The US are the world's leader.
Everything happening in the US has an influence on the rest of th world.
When the US market stock exchange goes down on monday, the french market stock exchange goes down on thursday (and I think it's the same for th English market stock exchange, the germand market stock exchange, the japanese market stock exchange, etc...).
When the US army attacks Iraq, the GAS prices are skyrockettng, all over the world.
When the US president adresses his State of the Union speech, the french medias sum it up.
When there's a peace conference to try to settle a conflict between two countries, it more efficient if the US participate to it.
If the world was a train, the US would be the locomotive. So, as a passenger in that train, I want a good locomotive.
2) There's something called "The American *****".
I don't what this means to you, but, to me, it means something.
It means that this country is the one in wich everyone can seize the opportunity to succeed.
I doesn't matter where do they come from, it doesn't matter what the colour of their skin, it doesn't matter if they love men or women, etc. Every man or wman living in this country has the right to the pursuit of happiness. And, if they get lucky, they may become the new Rockfeller.
This is my version of the "American *****". To me, this is why every *** in the world dreams about living in the US, why people all over the world wear T-shirt with the Star Splangled Banner flag on it, why every *** in the world play Cowboys & Indians, why so many people are ready to put their life at stake just to get to America
I'm French and proud of it. My parents and my grand-parents were French either, I've alway lived in France, I'm a patriot, I love my country, I truly think it is the best country in the world. Just like you, Aemrican folks, think your country is the best in the world. But I also think that, for the sake of the entire world, the American ***** must live. Because if the American ***** dies, then for millions of people all around the world, hope would die.
To me, Obama's policy is more likely to make that American ***** alive than Romney's policy is. And, let's be hones, Obama is kinda like a living example of the American ***** : A black man, who's ****** was from Kenya, making his way to become the President. Wow ! Let me say it : Only in America !
