Who's the best international courier?

Hi folks, I live in Los Angeles and I wanna send a package weighing about 5 lbs but under 10 to a friend of mine who now resides in Phillipines.

Which is the best international courier? UPS, USPS, FEDEX or DHL?

I want a courier to delivers package straight to the recipient's door. I heard that UPS don't practice this type of doctrine, what they do instead is mail your package to the Phillipines Postal Office and then they will take care of it (which I don't want) because I don't want it to get lost or stolen, or anything missing inside.

Which is the most reliable international courier? Like I said its about 5 lbs so i'm not expecting to pay a fortune here and I wanna be 100% sure it will get to its destination. My timeframe is to for the package to get to its destination around mid Feb. So I'm not in a big hurry.

Please guide me and share any personal experiences you have shipping packages overseas.

Thank you so much guys.

I am in America, not of it.
My brother who has lived in many places in the world(Kenya, Turkey, Columbia, Oman, UAE,) swears by DHL for what that is worth. I have sent several things to him via them and he has always gotten them relatively quickly and more importantly with everything still in the box. This doesn't always happen with some other carriers.

Anything but UPS, which isnt a fair comment on my part but of all the couriers I've used UPS is the only one to ever mess up and that was only shipping something about 300km.

even shipments from the same state ups fucks up. i use fedex. no problems with them yet. wait, how much is 300 kms? who cares, ups does eat shit.

Whoaaa... controversial subject matter:sleep:

I think part of it is where you live, as some couriers are better than others. Where I live UPS is about 10 times better than anybody else, but I have heard the opposite for people that live in other places.

UPS is the largest courier in the world and has hundred of thousands of packages a day domestic and internationally. UPS tends to pay much less and the Management-Union relationship overall is very poor !

Most UPS hubs in big cities hires workers that can not read ABC, dropped out of school and UPS used a part-time system 4-5 hours to control workers.

The evening shift is the worst in UPS, consider working for UPS and went in at 11 p.m. and you finished by 2:45 a.m., they kick you out in the middle of the night in the worst part of town. Now you wonder why the UPS workers did not diberately mis-sort, misdirect your package.

DHL specializes in international delivery. By all means, DHL is a tough company. Does DHL send your package to the local post office in Phillipines, YES !!!

DHL outsources everything, including drivers and trucks. In order to work for DHL, you have to be operator-owner of a van, truck, courier van. The delivery courier of DHL is paid by the weight of the total packages of the route he has. He owns his own van/truck/tracker-trailer, etc. So he gets much more pay than UPS. Because DHL delivers world-wide and uses an out-source system, the package will be delivered by the local delivery courier anyone such as Phillipines Post Office. But DHL is trying to develop a better domestic system in North America.

If a company only pays 4-5 hours a day to the workers, you think the UPS workers are willing to deliver your package to the destination? Hell NO !!

I use DHL both personally and for my business, and in my opinion, they streak ahead of UPS and FedEx. They offer more options, more integrated services, and give you a better tracking of your parcel.

I'm going to give something away now. I work for the 4th biggest courier in the world. Which seems to be missing from your list, oh and it's Europe's largest.

But having said that you will find that people who work for them are not always how can I say, give good compliments of them. Maybe it's the worker employer relationship coming into that. But they do a fairly good job if you ask our customers views. Plus you don't grow that big since 1946 if your not doing something right. I could go fully into it and bore the pants off everyone. But won't as I like to not think about the place when I'm not there.

So I'm staying neutral on this.

But will ask, where's TNT on that list ?

In December 1996, KPN, the Dutch national post and telecommunications organization, acquired all TNT trading entities throughout the world. TNT was originally an Australian courier company bought out by the Dutch.

TNT has owned by the Dutch for more than 11 years and operates throughout worldwide. But TNT concetnrates their operation in the East Coast in America.

TNT is not a well known courier company in America but TNT is a well-respected company in the courier busienss and one of the best in Europe. TNT still has a very small North American operation and depends on others to deliver packages in North America !

Actually Japan Post is one of the largest postal service in the world in term of revenues !

Like I said I don't want to bore people. But you did forget one important thing on this. TNT is actually originally the two biggest rival Australian companies that merged into one company. Also TNT stands for Thomas National Transport. Ruppert Murdock for a little while owned the company and so they are a national carrier of newspapers in many countries still thanks to him.

TNT also only really have stepped up their international service in the last five years. As they used to use mainly other carriers to help move their freight. But it is one of the biggest growing within the companies services.

Want me to carry on ?

After all I've now worked for them for over 10 years.

Oh and forgot to mention this earlier. UPS aren't the biggest courier in the world. Fed Ex is and have been for many years. This is often quoted wrong as Fed Ex don't give away all the companies they own. Fed Ex was thought to have pulled out of the UK some years ago only returning 2 years ago. But this wasn't totally true. Example they own no fewer than 10 different parcel carriers in the UK alone.

As the old saying goes "I'm in the business" ;)
