NFL rules. CFL field.

Let's say, 2009 Alabama vs 2009 Montreal Alouettes.

Elite athletes/coaching and youth vs Grown men (mostly)cast off from the NFL.

Both teams have plenty of time to prepare gameplans.

Montreal are the two time defending CFL Champions led by legendary QB Anthony Calvillo.

Alabama was the 2009 NCAA Div.1 Champion going undefeated through the SEC. 11 players (correct me if I'm wrong) from that 2009 'Bama team are currently on NFL squads.

So...discuss.

Calvillo is without question the greatest quarterback that I have ever had the fortune of seeing play. By the end of the year he's going to be pro football's (American & Canadian) all time leader in passing yards leader... and he did it after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Really no question, I think, which team is more talented. However, the games are somewhat incompatable. The NFL generally favours size whereas the CFL favours speed.

Depends on what rules are used and is the game played on a CFL, which is bigger, or NCAA field.
The CFL field is wider, longer and has deeper end-zones.

The NFL generally favours size whereas the CFL favours speed.
There's two reasons for that. The CFL only allows 3 downs instead of 4, and the the CFL is mainly populated with guys who couldn't make it in the NFL.

With NFL rules and a CFL field, here's the main points I would consider:

1 - A good SEC defense against an offensive line populated with guys who couldn't make an NFL team.
2 - A good SEC offensive line against a defense populated with guys who couldn't make an NFL team.
3 - 11 players on the field instead of 12.
4 - A wider field and deeper end-zone.
5 - An offensive play in the NFL allows only 1 man in motion before the snap while most CFL plays look like a cluster-fuck with the whole backfield and the wide receivers all in motion at the same time.

I would have to go with Alabama winning as I figure the CFL team would be penalized a lot for illegal procedure, and the CFL team wouldn't be able to match up on a physical scale. Alabama would establish a running game, controlling the clock and for the most part, keeping the CFL's offense off the field, and Bama's defense well-rested.

To me it seems fairly even...so I'd go with the vets over the college guys...

Its easy to say the league to the north is full of lesser talented players but a lot of the players that end up there were never actually given a chance because of size, coming from a small school etc and many actually are really talented so with veteran knowledge and leadership to go with talent, that sounds like a winner to me.

Okay, give me the 2001 Miami Hurricanes. I don't care what CFL team you put on the field, the Canes are going to win.

Andre Johnson, Jeremy Shockey, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, Kellen Winslow, and Clinton Portis on offense. Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork, Phillip Buchanon, Antrel Rolle, Mike Rumph, and Jonathan Vilma on defense.

Well you've got me there! Most super teams like that could probably beat (or at least hang with) any team in any league.

Whoops, the wrong thread for a Brit to stray into. I haven’t clue what the hell you guys are on about.
:dunno:

Its surprisingly hard to make the jump and have a successful career in both leagues since they're surprisingly different. This year Andy Fantuz signed with the Bears. He was the top receiver for my team last year and the guy is insanely talented. Hopefull he can make the jump, but I dont know.

No question CFL would win. Those are grown men getting paid to play football. The jump between High School and college is so much smaller than College to Pro. Even though they aren't in the NFL, they are bigger, faster, and stronger than most college players. Some 19/20 year old would get murdered in the pros.

This is why I had to specify which NCAA team. :1orglaugh Those Hurricanes probably could have given most NFL teams a go.
